I just purchased a steel crank from a local swap meet. I am questioning whether it is forged or cast. It was an older Summit crankshaft, made by Cola. The number on the end is S348C2169. Any ideas. Any way of telling for sure?

The problem is they haven't sold those cranks under the Cola name for quite a few years. Besides, I worked there for quite a while..know a few people and already asked! So...thanks for the idea, but I already tried that road!

Look at the parting line on the crank. The forged crank will have a much wider parting line most of the time.

I didn't know Cola made cast ones either. I have one of those summit cranks and it is 4340. Post a picture and we can probably tell you what you have?
