I just got a used falcon tranny, the tail shaft is loose/wobbly. It turns fine though and seems to be fine but its just loose. Is this normal or what is the problem?

That is normal. The slip yoke rides on the bushing and supports the shaft when you install it.

I wonder why Bert doesn't do that? I've owned a Bert and Brinn but this was the first time I had seen this.

Its normal. It has to do with the difference in the rear shaft and how its supported. On a falcon the rear output shaft isn't supported until you insert the driveshaft yoke thru the bearing in the tail.

Good deal, thanks everybody!

Beware the bearing on Falcons you really should use hardened slip yoke for reliability. At least plan to replace the bearings and slip yoke more often for the galling of the softer yoke will destroy the rear bearing. The older ones are a press fit while I think the newer ones use a retainer.

I had a speedway yoke for the last three years and no issues ever with the bearing or the yoke.
