In a lift rule engine, what would be the best, max. lift allowed or less lift and more duration. I guess a custom ground cam would be optimal, but if choosing a off the shelf cam what would be better.

Always use max lift allowed but never try to crutch something by adding duration, unless the duration is already too small. The most important thing about a cam is getting the intake duration right. You can be a little off about anything else on the cam but intake duration is critical.

So something like a .443/.465, 288/298, 214/224 @ .50, is better than .434/.434, 313/312, 244/244 @ .50

I'm not expert (I'm going to order a cam this week… still don't know the grind or grinder) but I'd go with the most lift you can get and figure the ramps and duration from there.

There are many cam outfits who will take your $$$… I'd call Mike Jones @ Jones Cams
704-489-2449 or Charles @ Camcraft 800-426-2261. These guys know 2bbl. and lift cams backwards and forwards.

We use a Howards off the shelf lift rule cam .We are limited to a 425 lift smog heads cut to to 70 cc 600 holley 4 vr hypers stock crank stock type rods . I chose a 410 lift cam powerband tops out at 6400 according to spec sheet I spun it to 6780 last race. We havebeen very pleased as the motor is a beast off of corner best part it is a 1500 $ grenade thats all we have in motor it has a season and a half on it . Pulled pan Saturday bearings looked great gonna seal it back up for another season.

I ordered a cam from Jones cam design today… a little different than I would have chosen but we'll give it a try.

.333 lift @ lobe (.499 w/1.5's… .532 w/1.6's)
243 duration @.050
108 LSA

I like the 108 LSA… I think that will flatten the torque curve a bit. The lift is a tad low IMHO BUT I'm running stock 993's with 1.94's so you can't get too much more flow thru that small hole.

My engine guy had picked out an Isky cam for my deal but I really didn't like the specs and I also really prefer a custom grind rather than off the shelf stuff. We are building two bullets this year so we may change that cam in the second motor just to compare performance.

Would mixing rocker ratios, 1.5/1.6, be good on a .442/.465.

Do what mike jones tells you and you'll be fine. Don't guess. He will steer you in the direction you need to go. Just put the cam in he recommends the way he recommends and close your eyes and forget about it.
