We run in an outlaw b-mod class 3/8 high bank paper clip track. rules are cannot be roller and have to run steel heads as well as 2bbl. no limit on 2bbl. we have a 930 aerosol carb and dart iron eagle 215 64cc heads with 205 valves. we are looking to build a 355 this year or around there. trying to keep short block around 3k or under due to lack of sponsorship and I have to pay for two weddings this summer. please help with advice as to what to put into the short block to stay together around the price range. creason racing engines will probably be the ones putting the motor together. I feel that we have a good start already on the heads and carb just need advice on the short block. competition is around the 500-575 hp range. chassis is an fr-1 with 6.50 gear. that's all we have for gear at the moment but looking for 6.20 or 6.33...please help. santa will be helping buy parts in next couple days!

I would suggest more cubic inches to get the HP range you are lookin for. I would find it hard to makes 500-575 hp with a 355 with a 2barrel, especially without a roller cam.
I would suggest a 400 block with a 350 crank. would wind up quick, and should be very reliable.
another combo is a 400 block, and a 3 5/8 stroke crank.
Remember the old saying......
No Replacement for displacement, or no substitute for cubic inches.

I have both those gears for sale new shipped for $450 in tote with mini spool std gear. or I have some of my personal gears for sale that I don't use now that Im running a crate motor. Here is my add for them.... the 633 sells new for 750 the other one 650 cus it doesn't have a lightened yoke.

633 3rd member/ cut to the max lightened ring gear and lightened short narrow yoke, full lw spool. 31 spline. Used $475

620 3rd members. Used in great shape, lightened cut ring gear, lw full spool. 31 spline. Short narrow yokes. $400

My business is JnJ Fabrication.

383. 350 blocks are easy to find, get a complete rotating assy as a package, plenty to choose from. I like the Mahle pistons with their ring package, 13 compression. 4340 on the crank and rods. Find a cam grinder to cut a cam for your program. I would get the engine on a dyno and tune it.

just picked up a 383 short block from an old boy that had one sitting around. 383 scat superlight crank. oliver 6" rods and srp domes. should be a decent lower end. still gonna send it in and have it refreshed...heads are virgin dart iron eagle 215 64 205 valves. what can I do to them to maximize performance?? do you recommend porting?? 930 aerosol 2bbl vic jr intake is our setup..also would anyone change anything

that 930 2bbl is a monster. seems like you have to keep it above 3000 rpm or it loads pretty bad. but we also have a 700 2bbl and it seems like 75 more horse than that 700. and we will probably run whatever cam creason decides best fit for application. im sure he will dyno tune it if he does it. still gonna build a 355 or another 383 down the road. BUT...you do recommend to try to get around 13 compression if possible?

A 750 4 barrel vs a 500 two barrel wasn't even 55 more hp to the rear tires back to back on a chassis dyno for me. On a 15-1 436.

If you have a two barrel that is that much better it must be quite the piece, surprised it doesn't idle properly.

Maybe the "700" 2bbl is REALLY needing a rebuild lol. A 2bbl without those tube boosters would probably be a lot better for the o.p.

I'm sure its not 75hp difference but you can feel huge difference. And yes the 700 could have used a rebuild probably it was our backup. Wish I could post pics of the 930
