Ponderosa Speedway Ready for Exciting 2014 Racing Season

Junction City, KY-January 7, 2014- Ponderosa Speedway new track promoter Jerry Denson and staff are set to kick off the 2014 racing season at the 3/8 mile D-shaped clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring”. Denson returns for his second tenure as promoter after having last promoted the track during the 2004 season.

The racing program at Ponderosa Speedway in 2014 will see mostly Friday night events, with a handful of Saturday night programs sprinkled in the mix as well. For 2014, five divisions of racing competition will be presented at the track, which begins its 42nd season of dirt track entertainment, with those divisions being Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, and Pure Street Stocks.

The activities for the 2014 racing season will begin with an open practice test and tune day on Saturday afternoon March 29 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The racing season officially will get underway the following weekend on Saturday April 5, while the next event will also take place on Saturday April 12.

The Super Late Model division will be in action at the track each week, with weekly events paying $1,000 to win and $125 to start. Several special events for the Super Late Model division are scheduled throughout the season. The first one will take place on the first Friday night of racing action on Friday April 18 as the 2nd Annual Spring Showdown will take place, featuring Ray Cook’s Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals presented by Schaeffer Oil, paying $4,000 to win. The next special event will be on Saturday May 3 with the return of the Pete Abell Memorial event, with the 18th installment of that race paying $2,500 to win. The Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event returns on Friday July 4, with the 14th edition of that race paying $2,500 to win. The 3rd Annual Red Clay Bash will take place on Friday August 1 with the amount to win for that event to be announced, while the John Bradshaw Memorial race returns on Friday August 22, with the 11th edition of that event set to be the richest in track history, paying $10,001 to win. Another special event is planned for Saturday September 27, with money amounts to be announced on that event. The season will culminate on Friday and Saturday October 10 and 11 with the 7th Annual Friday Night Rumble on October 10 and the 24th Annual Fall Classic set for Saturday October 11, with prize money for those events to be announced. The weekly Super Late Model feature event payout for 2014 will be as follows: 1st- $1,000, 2nd- $500, 3rd- $400, 4th- $375, 5th- $350, 6th- $300, 7th- $250, 8th- $200, 9th- $175, 10th- $150, 11th through 18th- $125 to start.

The Pro Late Model division will return to Ponderosa Speedway as well in 2014 and will race under the sanction and rules of the FASTRAK Late Model Series. The Pro Late Model division will race with a sliding-scale payout to start with in the 2014 season, as if there are 12 or more entries, the feature event will pay $500 to win and $75 to start, but if there are 11 or less entries, the feature will pay $300 to win and $75 to start. The Pro Late Model division will race for $800 to win as part of the 4th Annual Weekend Warrior event on Friday May 2, with other extra money races possibly in the works throughout the 2014 season in the interest in the division grows and the car count goes up and becomes steady. The weekly Pro Late Model feature event payout for 2014 will be as follows: 12 or more cars- 1st- $500, 2nd- $250, 3rd- $200, 4th- $150, 5th- $125, 6th- $100, 7th- $95, 8th- $90, 9th- $85, 10th- $80, 11th through 18th- $75 to start; 11 or less entries- 1st- $300, 2nd- $200, 3rd- $100, 4th- $90, 5th- $80, 6th through 11th- $75 to start. If the division receives enough support, the payout will be at least $500 to win each week and could possibly go up.

The Modified division will also return to action at track in 2014, as many of the best Open-Wheel pilots in the area call Ponderosa Speedway their home track. The Modified division will race for $700 to win and $100 to start on their weekly shows. Extra money events for the Modifieds will take place on Friday April 18 ($1,500 to win), Saturday May 3 ($1,000 to win), Friday July 4 ($1,500 to win), and on August 22 ($2,500 to win). The Modified will also compete for extra money on Friday August 1, Saturday September 27, Friday October 10, and Saturday October 11, with those to win amounts to be announced at a later date. The weekly Modified feature event payout for 2014 will be as follows: 1st- $700, 2nd- $350, 3rd- $250, 4th- $225, 5th- $200, 6th- $175, 7th- $150, 8th- $130, 9th- $120, 10th- $110, 11th through 18th- $100 to start.

The always exciting Sportsman division also returns for competition in 2014, with their weekly feature event paying $300 to win and $50 to start. Extra money will be up grabs in this always crowd pleasing division on Saturday April 5 ($400 to win) and Saturday April 12 ($400 to win). The division is set to race for $600 to win at the Weekend Warrior event on Friday May 2, with extra money also up for grabs for the class on Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11. The weekly Sportsman feature event payout for 2014 will be as follows: 1st- $300, 2nd- $200, 3rd- $150, 4th- $125, 5th- $100, 6th- $90, 7th- $80, 8th- $70, 9th- $60, 10th- $55, 11th through 18th- $50 to start. If enough support is shown for the division, the weekly payout could go up to $400 to win.

The Pure Street Stock will return to Ponderosa Speedway for the first time in many seasons, with the division’s feature event set to pay $200 to win and $30 to start each week. Extra money events are set for Saturday April 12 ($300 to win) and Friday May 2 ($300 to win) as part of the 4th Annual Weekend Warrior event. Other extra money to win events are also planned if the class receives enough interest, including extra money on Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11. The weekly Pure Street Stock feature event payout for 2014 will be as follows: 1st- $200, 2nd- $100, 3rd- $90, 4th- $80, 5th- $70, 6th- $65, 7th- $60, 8th- $55, 9th- $50, 10th- $40, 11th through 18th- $30 to start.
