CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2014 season opener for the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series is less than four weeks away. The second season for the Chevy Super Series will open at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on March 15 with a 50-lap $3,000-to-win race.

Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series officials are optimistic that there is going to be big growth for America’s first “Factory Backed and Factory Built” super late model series. Most of the regulars from last season will be returning for the 2014 season, and they will be joined by several new faces.

The defending Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Champion William Thomas of Phenix City, AL is expected to return in an effort to earn his second straight $10,000 title. Thomas had four wins, two third-place showings, and a seventh-place effort in seven starts last season.

The third generation driver visited Victory Lane at Penton Raceway in Penton, AL, East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL, Clarksville Speedway in Clarksville, TN, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Tim Busha of Boaz, AL and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN tied in the point standings for the second spot, but Busha won the tie-breaker by having more wins than Johnson.

Busha picked up two victories last season with the first at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and the second at the season finale Dega 100 at Talladega Short Track. Johnson had five top five finishes in seven starts.

Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA took the win last season in one of the most entertaining races of the season at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN. That victory from the top shelf of the high-banked Bad Fast Taz helped propel Turner to the fourth spot in the 2014 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings.

A trio of “Young Guns” occupied the next three spots in the 2013 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings and are all looking to move up through the ranks in 2014. Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS finished fifth in the 2013 points chase, Adam Martin of Talladega, AL was sixth, and Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL took the seventh spot.

Former Talladega Short Track Ice Bowl Champion Ross Martin of Talladega, AL finished eighth in his first season of touring with any series. Now with some traveling experience under his belt, Ross Martin will return with his son Adam for a second season of Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series competition.

David Brannon of Elora, TN was an early 2013 title contender, but missed a race late in the season, and finished ninth in last year’s point standings. Brannon is expected to return for 2014 and once again contend for the Chevy Super Series Championship.

Other 2013 Chevy Super Series regulars expected to join Brannon in returning for the 2014 season are Frank Wilson of Milton, FL, Carlton Freeman of Eastaboga, AL, Ted Lackey of Munford, AL, Mark Dowdy of Waterloo, AL Steve Kirk of Munford, AL, and the defending Champion’s father, National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Billy Thomas of Phenix City, AL.

The 2014 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series season will also see several new faces of drivers competing with super dirt late models powered by the all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engine that is based on the production Chevrolet LS3 engine found in the Chevrolet Corvette, the Chevrolet Camaro, and the Chevrolet SS sold at Chevrolet dealers world-wide.

The all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engine is in stock at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA for $7.195 with free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast. NeSmith Chevrolet also has the start-up accessory kit available for an additional $2,259. To place an order, call Tim Bland at 1-877-497-3624.

Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN is expected to compete for the 2014 Chevy Super Series Championship. Gentry will join Johnson and Turner as former NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS Champions also running the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series.

Other new Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series contenders for 2014 include Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS, Matt Henderson of Loudon, TN, Pierce McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN, Cecil Eunice of Blackshear, GA, Lavon Sparks of Phenix City, AL, and Jake Knowles of Tyrone, GA.
