Jimmy Mars Caught Up in Early Bama Bash Incident; Eyes Thaw Brawl at LaSalle Next

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars hooked up with Jason Krohn Racing to drive their back-up MB Customs car in the 17th edition of the 'Bama Bash' at the historic East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, Alabama on February 28-March 1. The National Dirt Racing League (NDRL) presided over the storied race for the first time and a $17,017 top prize was on the line. On Friday night, Jimmy started his weekend by posting the seventh fastest lap in his group during qualifying prior to grabbing the fourth and final transfer spot through his heat race behind only prelim winner Kent Robinson, Don O'Neal, and John Blankenship.

After starting Saturday's 75-lap main event from the outside of the eighth row, Jimmy had high hopes of driving up through the talented field. Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed on the opening lap, as he was involved in a big pileup that damaged several fast racecars. Jimmy was forced to retire from the 'Bama Bash' with heavy front end damage to his #28 machine and was relegated to a disappointing twenty-fifth place effort. Complete results from EAMS can be found by logging onto www.thendrl.com.

The Menomonie, Wisconsin driver is now scheduled to take the next several weekends off from racing action while the weather hopefully improves in the Midwest and Upper Midwest. Weather pending, Jimmy’s next two races will be at LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois on March 28-29, as the American Late Model Series (ALMS) will sanction a pair of big shows in the 3rd Annual ‘Thaw Brawl.’ The Friday program at the 1/4-mile bullring will pay $2,000 to the winner, while Saturday’s showdown boasts a hefty $15,000 winner’s check.
