Southern All Stars Open 2014 Season March 22nd At Boyd’s Speedway
FAYETTEVILLE, TN—The Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series will open the 2014 campaign on Saturday night March 22nd at the Boyd’s Speedway located in Ringgold, GA., with the Shamrock 50 paying $5,000 to win for a the 50 lap event.
This race has been traditionally run at the Cleveland Speedway since 1995 when Scott Bloomquist captured the first checked flag and since then it has been a who’s who in racing that have came out on top in this Southern All Star traditional event. Past winners include Billy Moyer, Mark Miner, Dale McDowell, Ricky Holland, Dan Schlieper, Wendell Wallace, Duayne Hommel Earl Person Jr, Chris Madden, Jonathan Davenport, Shane Clanton, Jimmy Owens and Randy Weaver all have claimed the Shamrock title. The event was moved to Boyd’s Speedway this year due to ongoing financial issues at the Cleveland Speedway.
This years event should be no different as many of the top regional stars from across the southeast are expected to be on hand for the first points race of the 2014 Southern All Star season as last year’s points champion Riley Hickman of Cleveland, TN., will be in action to maybe start defending his 2013 title, but if Hickman decides to compete for the champion he will have some new drivers along with an Southern All Star veteran that have indicated their intentions on running for the series title which include 2007-08 Champion Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala, FL., going after title number three along with Josh Putnam of Florence, AL., Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN., Michael Luna of Sparta, TN., Cale Finley of Ardmore, AL., and Dylan Ames of Harvest, AL., all are looking to run with the series in 2014.
Action will begin with a Friday night practice that will run form 6pm-9pm on March 21st. then on Saturday March 22nd the pits gates will open at 3 pm with tech inspection starting at 4 pm, drivers meeting at 6 pm and hot laps to begin at 6:30. Classes that will be also be in action at Boyd’s include the Crate, A & B Hobbys.
The Southern All Star Late Models will compete in White Performance Qualifying, PPM Racing Products B Mains as well as a 50 lap feature event. Special rules for this event include mufflers are mandatory on all cars, right rear tire must mandatory 1600, as well as all Southern All Star Rules and race procedures.
