3/8 dryslick, high bank track. running ford 351W, cast heads, stock bottom end, ford 9", C4 1:1.
when I ran chev stuff ran 6:22 final with a glide, my question is am I shooting for the same final with the ford? maybe bit lower 6:00. new to ford peak torque/ horsepower ranges.
any input is appreciated

I would start with a 6.00, can't twist a stock Ford like you can a Chevy.

You can twist one like a chevy but a 351w will produce more low end power/torque than a 350 chevy will so you just dont have to run them as hard.

in our 3200 pound street stock on 3/8 track, I ran a 650 gear with 3.5 stroke and winsor jr heads and super victor intake with 750 carb, then they changed the rules to 500 cfm holley, we changed the gear to 620 , the 500 carb fell off earlier than the 750 so the higher gear helped, don't know your rules but hope this helps.

speedy there is a lot more variables to consider , ie: weight of car, how hooked up track is and so on, it sounds like you have enough engine not to worry about max rpms with the gears your talking about, you probably need to focus more on getting off corner the most. generally if track is hooked up, then lower gear could be the best, if track normally gets dry slick by feature time , a higher gear can help keep car hooked on exit. also keep in mind your cam shaft has a lot to do with torque curve and must be considered when choosing a gear, also if your rules allows for a altered 4412 or it has to be stock, good luck

Thanks for the info.. its a ump street stock 3200 lbs 52 rear and about 250 lbs of bite. Im not sure what the track will be like ill be running at the old kamps and they have brought in new dirt and im not sure how long it will take to get the track worked in and slicked off. Im sure it will be ruff the first few weeks so I was thinking my 6.33 will help due to the bumps and rutts in the track it will help me get going again after the holes. I hope they get the track worked in and looking good but with the weather its going to be hard. So I guess ill start with the 6.33 I just dont want to spin the motor more then 7k or so.......

a 6.33 is a lot of gear for Kamp, unless you run around the bottom.
I have not been at that facility since 2000, and in a modified, but I seem to remember running a 5.43 to a 5.67 there.

Ya I was their in 09 and I had a 10 bolt rear end and a turbo 350 trans and I ran a 3.73 gear with trans in 2nd gear and it wasnt quite a enough if I remember right. But I dont know what that would be in a 9 in with a direct drive

th350 2nd is 1.52 x 3.73 rear gear = 5.67 final. Answer 5.67 rear gear in 2nd gear {hi} on the PG.
