CARTERSVILLE, GA – Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series officials have released a Technical Bulletin regarding a change in the RPM limit on all Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engines beginning this Saturday night at the 50-lap $3,000-to-win race at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL.

The RPM limit on Chevrolet Performance CT 525 Engine Ignition Boxes will be lowered from 7,300 RPM to 7,000 RPM. This change is being made after Chevy Super Series officials conferred with Chevrolet Performance engineers, and a successful test session at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

All parties involved felt the lowering of the RPM limit was in the best interest of competition and longevity of the economical all-aluminum Chevrolet Racing Engine. Chevrolet Super Late Model Series Technical Director Tim Sims explained the findings of the test session that was conducted after the March 22 Chevy Super Series race at Talladega Short Track.

“During the test session, all we tested was the RPM and the gearing of the race car,” Sims said. “We discovered that lowering the RPM limit and going with an approximately 20 points taller gear, the car gained an average of three to four tenths of a second per lap in speed. With the RPM and gear changes, the driver noted the engine still performed well with no bogging or lagging at either the top or bottom grooves of the track.”

Sims asks that Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series competitors be prepared to be in pre-race technical inspection a little longer than usual this Saturday afternoon at East Alabama Motor Speedway in order for their Ignition Boxes to be reprogrammed to meet the new RPM limits.

“We ask all drivers to cooperate with us by being prepared to get registered on Saturday afternoon as soon as possible and then get to tech inspection so we will have time to program everyone’s Ignition Box,” Sims said. “Also, please be sure to check the mounting of the Ignition Box where it has easy access to the data port for the computer. We prefer a straight up and down mount on the firewall with the port at the top for easy access.”

East Alabama Motor Speedway will host an Open Practice Session on Friday night beginning at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Pit Gate will open at 3 p.m., with Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. with Hot Laps to follow.

East Alabama Motor Speedway is on Eastern Daylight Time and is located at 4238 U.S. Highway 80 West, Phenix City, AL 36870. For more information call 334-297-2594, or visit the track web site at www.eamsdirt.com.
