CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 7 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will see much attention directed towards Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, as Chris Holley of Dayton, TX will be going for his fifth straight Late Model win. The Battleground Speedway race will be one of 16 races in eight different states on the Week 7 schedule of events.

Four races will open NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 competition on Friday night with races scheduled for Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, Salina Speedway in Salina, KS, and the 2014 season opener at Lexington 104 Speedway in Lexington, TN.

There will be two $1,000-to-win races that will highlight NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Saturday night Week 7 action at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS, who will host an I-20 Challenge Series Race.

Also in action on Saturday night with NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 7 events will be Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL will host its first NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model race of the season on Saturday night. The $800-to-win race will be co-sanctioned by the Southeastern Crate Series.

Holley is undefeated this season at Battleground Speedway, and on April 26, the transplanted West Tennessean sent a strong message to the drivers in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series. The fashion in that he won the race proved he is a legitimate contender for the $10,000 Championship. Holley was a guest on the NeSmith Race Report on Tuesday night, and explained what went down.

“There were two laps to go in the race, I’m leading, and a lapped car comes down in front of me, so I had to spin out to keep from hitting him,” Holley said. “I couldn’t believe it, but the officials put me to the back of pack for the restart. That made me mad and I guess I showed out a little bit because I came from the back and passed Jamie Green coming off the fourth turn on the last lap to win the race.”

Holley said he knows $10,000 is at stake for the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship, and he and his team are making plans to put forth an effort to win it, even if it means a few road trips.

“There will be about five weeks between now and the end of the season where the Late Models will be off at Battleground Speedway, so we’re planning to visit some of the other NeSmith tracks,” Holley said. “The closest track to us would be St. Tammany Raceway in Louisiana, so we’re looking to go there.”

As professional wrestler Ric Flair always says, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.” St. Tammany Raceway is the home track of the defending NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion Noah Daspit of Kiln, MS. Holley vs. Daspit could be the race of the year. WHOOOO!!!!!!!

Holley is currently 21st in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 200 points, but just because a driver is outside the Top 10 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings at this point of the season doesn’t mean that they aren’t a title contender. At this point of the season, the drivers that have raced the most have earned the most points.

Since the points system takes a driver’s best 14 weekly finishes, the standings will show some dramatic changes after the 14-week point of the 27-week season. Once a driver reaches the 14 week point in the season, they are done earning full points. They then will begin to net on their lowest weekly point total.

A driver with 14 or more weeks in competition may have as their lowest weekly point total a 41, which they earned for finishing tenth or worse in a feature event. If they finish fifth in their next race, they would earn 46 points and knock that 41 point race out of their best 14 and net a total of five points.

The drivers at the top of the point standings are usually the first drivers to hit the 14 week point of the season. Once they begin netting points, drivers behind them in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings that haven’t reached the 14 week mark are still earning full points, and they will begin to climb in the standings.

A driver that wins a NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series race with a car count of eight or more earns 50 points. The points earned drops off one point per position back to tenth spot and 41 points, which is also the point total earned through the rest of the drivers in the main event.

For fields with a car count of less than eight pays 40 points for the win, and drops back one point per position to the seventh spot at 34 points. At any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event, if a drivers attempts to compete, but doesn’t start in the main event, they earn 25 points.

A driver’s Weekly Point Average will be used as a gauge in the coming weeks to show just how weak or strong a driver is the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Championship picture. A perfect WPA is 50, which indicates a driver has won every week, or has 14 50-point wins after the 14-week mark in the season. The strongest candidates for the Championship will have WPAs between 46 and 50.

NeSmith Racing officials will begin calculating the WPAs after Week 7 of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. The question then becomes, will they stay or will they go in the Top 10 once the 14 week mark arrives in the 2014 season?

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings after the first six weeks of competition with 291 points. Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS is second with 288 points and Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is third with 279 points. Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS and 12-year-old Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL are tied for fourth with 257 points apiece.

Kyle Clifton of Ranburne, AL and Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS are tied for the sixth spot in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 256 points apiece, and the Ageless Wonder Red Farmer of Hueytown, AL is eighth with 255 points. Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is ninth with 250 points and Daspit rounds out the Top 10 with 238 points.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
