CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 8 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season will offer up 13 races in eight different states. The Top 10 of the point standings could be reshuffled in the coming weeks as Weekly Point Averages come into play and several drivers currently outside the Top 10 become contenders for the $10,000 National Championship.

The WPAs are calculated by a driver’s point total divided by the number of weeks the driver has competed in 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. This week we will calculate the WPAs for drivers that have competed for at least five weeks and use it as a gauge to see who is a title contender at this point in the season.

Three races are on the schedule for Friday night Week 8 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action with events set for Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, and North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL.

Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will highlight Saturday night Week 8 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series action with their 2014 season opener paying $1,000-to-win. The season opener at Jackson Motor Speedway has been delayed over one month by flooding from the nearby Pearl River.

Other Saturday night Week 8 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series races are scheduled for Arkadelphia Speedway in Bremen, AL, Battleground Speedway in Highlands, TX, Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL, Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS share the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point lead with 336 points apiece. Both drivers have a Weekly Point Average of 48 out of a possible 50. They are part of three-way tie for the third spot on the WPA list, with the third driver, as well as the top two, coming from outside the Top 10 in points.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 303 points and has a WPA of 43.29. Doug Sanchagrin of Florence, MS is fourth with 300 points and a WPA of 42.86. Cruz Skinner of Oxford, MS is fifth with 298 points and a WPA of 42.57. Mike Combs of Odenville, AL is sixth in the standings with 279 points and a WPA of 46.5.

Caleb Coan of Moulton, AL is seventh in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 276 points and a WPA of 46. Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS holds the eighth spot in the standings with 274 points and has a WPA of 45.67, Casey Haney of Meridian, MS is ninth with 273 points and a WPA of 45.5, and Ronnie Cooper of McKenzie, TN rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 266 points and a WPA of 44.3.

The top two drivers on the WPA list are in the second ten of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings and could be described by the old Jimmie Rogers tune “Give Me A T For Texas And Give Me A T For Tennessee.”

The driver with the highest WPA among the drivers that have compete for five weeks or more during the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series season is 17th in the point standings. Chris Holley of Dayton, TX is undefeated with five wins in five weeks for a point total of 250 and a perfect WPA of 50. Holley will compete for his sixth straight win this Saturday night at Battleground Speedway.

Just behind Holley on the WPA list is Adam Beeler of Knoxville, TN, who is 18th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 246 points and a WPA of 49.2. Another Tennessee driver, Ryan King of Seymour, TN is 18th in the standings with 240 points, and is tied with
Gauldin and Bridgmon for third on the WPA list at 48.

Drivers participating at NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanctioned tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts their 14 best weekly point totals over the 27-week season that runs through September 28.

The 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion will earn $10,000 and the Top 10 drivers in the final National point standings will also receive cash awards from the point fund. Drivers will also compete for an additional point fund at each series sanctioned track.
