CARTERSVILLE, GA – There are nine races in five different states on the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies Week 8 schedule of events. Brandon Leftwich of Meridian, MS leads the point standings, but several drivers behind him will be looking to climb up the list and contend for the $2,000 National Championship.
Several title contenders are beginning to come into focus using the Weekly Point Average (WPA) formula of where drivers with five or more weeks of competition stand when looking at the big picture at this point in the season. A driver’s WPA is calculated by dividing the driver’s point total by the number of weeks they have competed.
There are three races on the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 8 Friday night schedule at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS, North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL, and at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL.
Saturday night NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 8 action will be highlighted by a $1,000-to-win race co-sanctioned by the Mississippi Street Stock Series as a part of the 2014 season opener at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. The Jackson Motor Speedway season opener has been delayed over one month due to flooding by the Pearl River.
Other Saturday night Week 8 event on the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division schedule will be at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL, Moulton Speedway in Moulton, AL, Poplar Bluff Speedway in Poplar Bluff, MO, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL.
Leftwich leads the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 314 points, but he has the fourth highest WPA at 44.86, with 50 being the highest. Scooter Ware of West Point, MS is second in the standings with 293 points, and a WPA of 41.86. David Windham of Florala, AL is third in the standings with 291 points and a WPA of 41.57.
Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is fourth in the standings with 281 points, but he has the second-highest WPA among NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division competitors at 46.83. Clint Vaughn of Odenville, AL is fifth in the standings with 260 points and also has the fifth-highest WPA at 43.33.
Dean Shaw of Defuniak Springs, FL is sixth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standing with 259 points and has a WPA of 43.17. Mike Lane of Pace, FL holds the seventh spot in the standings with 250 points and has a WPA of 41.67.
Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS may be eighth in the standings with 244 points, but at this point in the 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division season, he is the leading National Championship contender with the highest WPA of 48.8 among drivers that have competed in five or more weeks of action.
Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL is ninth in the standings with 230 points and Tyler Hurst of Lineville, AL rounds out the Top 10 of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 229 points, but he has the third-highest WPA at 45.8.
Drivers that race at NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock tracks compete against each other through a points system that counts a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals during the 27-week season that runs through September 28. The 2014 NeSmith/AR Bodies National Champion will pocket $2,000 and the National point fund pays back to the Top 10 drivers at the end of the season.
