I've never seen that happen but in my oppion there has to be an aliment problem or a gear set way to loose and causing a snapping when getting on and off the power. the 9 in is almost bullit proof when done corect (the inner pinion bearing is the only real weak link)

was the reused between rearends?

If the case had the original caps, the preload on the carrier bearings was too loose during the build.
Never swap caps from another case. The caps are align honed to the case. Same as if you changed main caps in your motor and didnt align hone it. Boom.

Check for a bent axle. Happened to me broke caps on the same side twice before i figured it out.

I'll have to agree on the bent axle as being the problem.

are you running a full spool, or a mini spool?
floater rear end, or conventional axle set up?

If using mini spool, does it look like rr axle has hit the cross pin?
If so that could be your problem, side loading, and axle pushing against pin, which pushes on the left bearing hub on center section.

Also, could be not enough backlash in ring to pinion set up. If I am thinking right it is .10 thousands backlash.

Bent axle as stated above can do it as well.
if you know someone that has access to a lathe, have them chuck it up and spin it to see if it is bent.
