Southern Nationals Bonus Races Ready for Memorial Day Weekend Duck River & Tri-County Swing

(May 21, 2014) The Ray Cook-promoted Southern Nationals Bonus Races will be back in action for the second double-header of the season with a pair of events in Tennessee and North Carolina Memorial Day Weekend. On Sunday Night May 25th the Bonus tour will roll into the Bob Harris owned Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn. for Round Number Three, a 50-lap $5,000-to-win event. The track is fresh off of two exciting events as Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga. picked up the Spring Nationals Series $4,000 payday and most recently when Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. collected $10,000 during the World of Outlaws Late Model Series-sanctioned stop.

On Monday evening May 26th the tour will roll into Ray Cook’s Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, N.C. for the Fourth Annual Circuit World Memorial Day Championship race, which will be Round Number Four on the tour. The race will pay $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start the 40-lapper. Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. picked up the $4,000 victory during the track’s latest Super Late Model special which was sanctioned by the Spring Nationals Series. The event at Tri-County will benefit the Relay for Life. Circuit World, the annual presenting sponsor, has five locations with the home base being in Murphy, N.C.

During the first two Southern Nationals Bonus Races held on March 1 & 2 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. there were two different winners as Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala. picked up the $3,000 payday in Saturday’s opening race while Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga. took the $10,000 victory in Sunday’s “March Madness” race.

Gates open at 3:00 pm Central on Sunday at Duck River with the drivers meeting set for 6:30 pm and hot laps at 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $20 while adult pit passes are $35. The Crate Late Models will race for $1,000-to-win ($40 entry fee/35 lap feature), 2-Barrel Late Models, Pure Street Stock, Modified Street, Outlaw & Pure Pony Classes will all be on the racing card. A Fireworks show will also be on tap during the evening’s festivities.

On Monday May 26th at Tri-County, the pit gates will swing open at 3:00 pm, the grandstand gates open at 4:30 pm, the driver's meeting is slated for 6:00 pm, and racing to begin at around 6:30 pm. Adult general admission is $18.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $10.00 while children ten and under are admitted for free. Adult pit passes are $30.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $15.00 while children under ten are admitted for free. The Crate Late Models ($800-to-win), Interstate Welding Modified Street ($300-to-win), Street Stocks ($300-to-win) and the Pony class ($250-to-win) will all be on the racing card for their points-paying event. A Fireworks show will also light up the evening sky during the event.

The Southern Nationals Bonus Race tour will utilize the Hoosier 1350, 1600 & LM40 along with the American Racer 48 & 56 compounds at Duck River & Tri-County. Only these compounds will be allowed on all four corners. Tire samples will be taken and sent to the lab for testing. Southern Nationals rules & procedures will be in affect at all times. The entry fee will be $100 per night and transponders will be available for rent at the track. UPDATE: TRI-COUNTY WILL ALSO ALLOW HOOSIER 1300 AND AMERICAN RACER 44 OPTIONS ON MONDAY!

Tour regulars Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga., Austin Smith of Cedartown, Ga., along with Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., Tanner English of Benton, Ky., Daniel Miller of Shelbyville, Tenn., Brad Skinner of Springhill, Tenn., David Seibers of Petersburg, Tenn., Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala, Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Riley Hickman of Chattanooga, Tenn., Mark Fields of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Skylar Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., Eric Hickerson of Linden, Tenn., and Caleb Ashby of Cunningham, Tenn. are expected to be in attendance for another one of Duck River’s exciting events they will host. Other drivers expected to visit during the weekend’s events include David Payne of Murphy, N.C., Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., Eric Jacobsen of Santa Cruz, Cal. and Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky along with many more of the top regional drivers.

In addition to the Southern Nationals Bonus Races on Sunday and Monday, the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil will have their final two races of the 10-race mini-tour on Friday Night May 23rd at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Ga. paying $4,000-to-win followed by Saturday May 24th at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga. paying $6,000-to-win.
