CARTERSVILLE, GA – The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division is set for the Salute To The Armed Forces Nationals with a pair of 40-lap $2,000-to-win races over the Memorial Day Holiday Weekend at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS.

Whynot Motorsports Park will present the $2,000-to-win Salute To The Navy 40 on Saturday night, Round 8 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season. Whynot Motorsports Park will also a practice session on Friday night from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Magnolia Motor Speedway will be in action on Sunday night with the Salute To The Air Force 40, Round 9 of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point battle is tight, and the traveling regulars will face some tough competition from the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series regulars at both tracks.

Just ten points separate the top four drivers in the point battle for the $20,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship, as Mississippi race fans will see some new faces this weekend.

Walker Arthur of Forest, VA is the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point leader with 534 points after one win, three top five finishes and five top ten finishes in seven races. Arthur holds a four point lead over Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, TN, who has 530 points after four top five finishes in which three of those are second-place finishes, and five top ten finishes in seven races.

The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN is third in the standings with 528 points. The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee is fresh off his first win of the season, and his series leading 18th career win, on May 2 at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, AR.

Johnson has one win, three top five finishes, four top ten finishes and one Fast Time award in seven races of the 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series season. Johnson holds a four-point advantage over the fourth-place driver in the standings, Josh Adkins of Talladega, AL, who has 524 points after three top five finishes, and six top ten finishes in seven races.

Tait Davenport of Benton, KY is fifth in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 460 points, and Chris Noah of Rainbow City, AL is sixth and the Rookie of the Year point leader with 454 points. Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is seventh with 386 points and Ashley Newman of Ripley, TN holds the eighth spot with 322 points.

Brent Barrett of Cleveland, MS is ninth in the standings with 308 points, and Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS rounds out the Top 10 in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 262 points. Just outside the Top 10 are two drivers with a winning connection to both Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL will arrive at his home track, Whynot Motorsports Park, 11th in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings having competed in just three of the first seven races, thanks in part to his win at Batesville Motor Speedway on May 3 and a third-place effort on May 2. McRee won the Salute To The Navy 40 at WMP in 2012.

Reports also indicate that McRee will also field one his High Roller Race Cars for the 2013 Mississippi Street Stock Champion and third-place in the 2013 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock National points Calvin Cook of Pace, FL.

Chase Washington of Houlka, MS won the biggest battle of his life last year when he beat cancer, but while he was fighting his toughest foe outside the race car, his race team continued to win on the track, as Scott Dedwylder of Vossburg, MS drove Washington’s car to victories in both Salute To The Armed Forces events last year at Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway.

By Labor Day weekend last year, Washington had reached the point in his chemotherapy treatments that he took the wheel at Magnolia Motor Speedway and picked up the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series victory on September 1.

Also traveling with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series to Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway this weekend for the Salute To Armed Forces Nationals will be Chase Edge of LaFayette, AL, Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS, Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, TN, Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS, and Mike Palasini Jr. of Leland, MS.

The local contingent of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series regulars at both Whynot Motorsports Park and Magnolia Motor Speedway are poised, ready, willing and capable of keeping the big money in their own respective neighbors.

Whynot Motorsports Park is in a “changing of the guard” mode as the seasoned veterans are seeing some new fresh faces challenging them for checkered flags in 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. The veterans are led by two drivers that represent five NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region titles in three-time champion Lucky Keeton of Collinsville, MS and two-time champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS.

Keeton and McDuffie will lead the Whynot Motorsports “old guard” that also include former track champions Randy Boyd of Marion, MS and Larry Murphy of Meridian, MS, along with new winners this season at WMP Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS and Casey Haney of Meridian, MS. Daniel Bridgmon of Meridian, MS is a title contender for the $10,000 2014 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship.

After battling with the Whynot Motorsports Park local favorites on Saturday night, the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series regulars will face an equally tough group of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series combatants on Sunday night when they take to the “Black Ice” at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL and Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS both have NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division wins on their respective racing resumes. Shaw has two of his three NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS career victories at The Mag. Kyle Shaw of Millport, AL has performed his trademark “Roof Rumba” victory dance twice this season after NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series wins at Magnolia Motor Speedway.
