Jacob Poel Picks Up Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series Win at Farmer City

Farmer City, IL- May 23, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series returned to action after a three week layoff and kicked off a three-race tour in the state of Illinois on Friday at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, IL and Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, MI would take the checkered flag on Friday evening to score his first ever series victory in the 30 lap, $1,500 to win contest aboard the Lakeshore Custom Service/Gilboe’s Lock and Safe/A&A Manufacturing sponsored #82 Rocket Chassis powered by a Rhyne Race Engine.

The victory was worth $1,500 for Poel and would be his first ever win with the series, making him the 25th different driver in series history to score a victory in the 44 event history of the series. Poel also became only the second driver in series history from the state of Michigan to pick up a win.

Polesitter Jacob Poel would take the race lead at the start of the 30 lap main event and would lead throughout, but the action behind him would be heated to say the least as Nick Allen and Matt Mevert would take turns challenging Poel for the point. At one point after a lap 11 restart, eighth starting Jamie Lomax, Matt Mevert, and Nick Allen would dog Poel for the lead, but the trio would do so in a three-wide battle of their own that would last for six laps. However, Poel would maintain a steady pace at the point and would not waiver in any fashion to drive to the $1,500 payday and his first ever series victory. Lomax would bring his entry to the checkered flag in the second position, while Mevert would drive his mount to a third place finish. Nick Allen would come home in the fourth position, with Steven Brooks completing the top five.

The remainder of the top ten in the finishing order in Farmer City Raceway’s A-Main were Dave Crawley, Jeff Curl, Cory Schwengel, Jeff Leka, and 20th starting David McWilliams. The $1,500 to win event would be slowed by four caution periods.

In preliminary action, Jacob Poel would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 35 entries at 14.020 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Jacob Poel, while Steven Brooks scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Nick Allen, with Matt Mevert winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Jay Ledford and Justin Leka would be the winner of the Stealth Racewear B-Mains, while series provisional starting positions went to Roy Bruce, Jr. and Rick Weekly.

The next events for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series is tonight May 24 at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL (Gary Cook , Jr., Memorial-$2,064 to win), followed on Sunday May 25 at Vermilion County Speedway in Danville, IN (Kim Richardson Memorial-$3,000 to win).
