Southern Nationals Bonus Races Prepare for Busy Fourth of July Weekend at Tri-County & Tazewell
SOMERSET, KY (June 29, 2014)—The Southern Nationals Bonus Race tour is gearing up for a big double-header of racing on America’s birthday weekend.
On Friday Night July 4th the tour will roll into Ray Cook’s Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, N.C. for the Annual Circuit World-sponsored Independence Day Championship race, which will be Round #4 on the tour. The race will pay $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start the 40-lapper. Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. picked up the $4,000 victory during the track’s latest Super Late Model special which was sanctioned by the Spring Nationals Series. The event at Tri-County will benefit the Relay for Life. Circuit World, the annual presenting sponsor, has five locations with the home base being in Murphy, N.C.
On Saturday Night July 5th the tour will head to Gary Hall’s Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tenn. for Round # 5 of the eight-race mini-series. This event will be a 40-lap $5,000-to-win and $450-to-start main event. Other track divisions will also be in action. There will also be a Huge Fireworks show to light up the night’s skies during the evening’s activities.
During the first two Southern Nationals Bonus Races held on March 1 & 2 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. there were two different winners as Jason Hiett of Oxford, Ala. picked up the $3,000 payday in Saturday’s opening race while Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga. took the $10,000 victory in Sunday’s “March Madness” race. The third different series winner came on Sunday Night May 25th at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, Tenn. when Mike Marlar claimed the $5,000 payday after a thrilling duo with Benton, Ky’s Terry English.
On Friday July 4th at Tri-County, the pit gates will swing open at 4:00 pm, the grandstand gates open at 5:00 pm, the driver's meeting is slated for 6:00 pm, and racing to begin at around 6:30 pm. Adult general admission is $18.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $10.00 while children ten and under are admitted for free. Adult pit passes are $30.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $15.00 while children under ten are admitted for free. The Crate Late Models ($800-to-win), Interstate Welding Modified Street ($300-to-win), Street Stocks ($300-to-win) and the Pony class ($250-to-win) will all be on the racing card for their points-paying event. A Fireworks show will also light up the evening sky during the event.

The Late Model Sportsman, Modified Streets, Pure Streets, Four Cylinders and Classic Cars will all be on the racing card for the night’s entertainment. Adult general admission is $20.00. Adult pit passes are $30.00. In addition to next Saturday’s race at Tazewell, the track will host a special Thursday Night July 3rd racing event special for the Limited Late Models and other divisions will also be on tap.
The Southern Nationals Bonus Race tour will utilize the Hoosier 1300, 1350, 1600 & LM40 along with the American Racer 44, 48 & 56 compounds at Tri-County & Tazewell. Only these compounds will be allowed on all four corners. Tire samples will be taken and sent to the lab for testing. Southern Nationals rules & procedures will be in affect at all times. The entry fee will be $100 per night and transponders will be available for rent at the track.
