Ponderosa Speedway Off Until 14th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial on July 18

Junction City, KY-June 29, 2014- Ponderosa Speedway track promoter Jerry Denson and staff at the 3/8 mile D-shaped red clay oval better known as “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” will be closed the next two weekends, but racing action will return on Friday July 18 as the 14th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial will take place.

Of note, the Modified and Sportsman feature events that were rained out on Friday June 27 will be ran as part of this event on Friday July 18. These feature events will be contested immediately following time trials and pre-race ceremonies that evening, making for double features for those divisions.

The Friday July 18 racing program will feature the 14th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memoral event at Ponderosa Speedway. The Super Late Model division will be in action racing for $2,500 to win and the Modified division will be in competition for $1,500 to win, while the Sportsman division will race for $500 to win. The Pro Late Model division may or may not be a part of the Friday July 18 racing schedule and that information will be announced in a follow-up release for this event next week. RACEceivers are mandatory for all divisions and can be rented at the track at driver registration, with all drivers needing to be signed at the time for the drivers meeting that evening at 7:00 p.m.

Activities for the 14th Annual Hugh “Junebug” Rowland Memorial event on Friday July 18 will see the general admission area and pit area open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 7:20 p.m. Time trials will get underway at 7:45 p.m., with racing set to take the green flag at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices and race purse information will be released in the follow-up release for this event next week.

Ponderosa Speedway last raced on Friday June 27 and feature event winners that evening included Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY in Super Late Models and Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY in Pro Late Models, while the Modified and Sportsman feature events were rained out and will be contested as part of the July 18 racing program.

Track championship point leader heading into the Friday July 18 event are Timmy Taylor of Harrodsburg, KY in Super Late Models, Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY in Pro Late Models, Ryan Thomas of Gosport, IN in Modifieds, and Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in Sportsman.

Ponderosa Speedway is located at 365 Phillips Lane on the Boyle/Lincoln County border, outside of Junction City, KY, just minutes from Danville, KY. Jerry Denson is the track promoters and will present dirt track sports entertainment from April through mid-October of the 2014 race season.
