CARTERSVILLE, GA – Mother Nature once again played a big role shuffling up the Top 20 of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series point standings after Week 14 competition. The top two drivers in the points chase, Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL and Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons, and will now begin to net points.

There were 14 races on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Week 14 schedule of events. Seven races were run, and seven races were rained out. Even with half of the races being washed out, seven of the drivers that started the week in the top ten of the point standings got a race under their belts.

Gauldin was unable to start the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model feature race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL. Gauldin was forced to brake hard in hot laps to keep from getting into some cars that checked up in front of him, spun and hit the inside wall. That bent the front clip of his Adam Gauldin Racing GRT.

The point leader still earned 25 points in his 14th and final week to earn full points this season. That 25 will be the lowest weekly point total in his 14, so that’s what he will try to net on. A 50-point win would net him 25 points to his season total.

“I want to thank all of those that offered me a race car to drive, but we’ve repaired our car for this weekend and the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series race this Thursday night at Talladega Short Track,” Gauldin said. “The race car has a new front clip thanks to the efforts of Terry Smith at TSR Race Cars in Oxford, AL, my Paw Paw Donnie Elkins, my Crew Chief Richard Wolf, and my awesome crew.”

In 16 races over 14 weeks, Gauldin leads the battle for the $10,000 NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Championship with 645 points after three wins, 11 top five finishes, and 15 top ten finishes in the Adam Gauldin Racing GRT. Gauldin holds an 11-point advantage over 12-year-old Cruz Skinner in the standings.

Skinner was able to close the point gap between himself and Gauldin with his third NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Late Model win in the last four weeks at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Skinner Body Shop Special. Skinner has 634 points after three wins, seven top five finishes, and 11 top ten finishes in 17 races over 14 weeks. Skinner will now be trying to net on a 41.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is third in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series standings with 592 points, and still has one more week to earn full points. Lee has four wins, 14 top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes in 18 races over 13 weeks. Lee finished eighth on Saturday night at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL driving the Billy Riels Racing GRT.
