(Charlotte, NC) - With one of the most anticipated week's on the schedule upon us, the FUEL Racing Series heads into the Independence holiday weekend with a pair of exciting events for dirt late model fans here in the Carolinas. These tracks hosted the first two FUEL events earlier this season and if the racing back in April is any indication, race fans can expect a pair of stellar events this weekend as well. On Thursday, the series makes its return to Cherokee to kick off the holiday weekend with a $3000 to win event. Brett Hamm captured the win earlier this season at Cherokee and currently trails point leader Ross Bailes by 24 points in the championship standings. Bailes has been solid in FUEL competition with 2 wins and 2 runner up finishes to his credit this season. With this being a return visit to Cherokee, the teams are well aware of what it takes to succeed at the South Carolina oval. On Saturday, the series makes a return visit to Friendship Speedway. Earlier this season, Ross Bailes and Jonathan Davenport battled continuously for the lead with Bailes emerging as the victor. Additional banking was implemented at Friendship during the offseason and the racing action there has definitely increased! It could be a very pivotal weekend as Ricky Weeks, Donald Bradsher, Jason Pack, Ryan Atkins, Kenny Van Derveer, and others look to gain on Hamm and Bailes in the championship standings. Some of the drivers that have competed with the series and/or expressed their interest in this weekend's events include: Billy Hicks, Brett Hamm, Carson Ferguson, Casey Traxler, Chris Cantrell, Clinton Cook, David Smith, Donald Bradsher, Furman Parton, Gib Gibbons, Greg Knight, Jason Pack, JonathanDavenport, JR Moseley, Kennie Compton, Kenny VanDerveer, Lance Reynolds, Matthew Turner, Mitchell Coble, Ricky Weeks, Ross Bailes, Ryan Atkins, Steve Banal, & Steve Cooke.
