CARTERSVILLE, GA – There were small changes in the Top 20 of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies point standings in Week 15 competition, as drivers had an opportunity to compete in four races over four days at four different tracks. One driver used this opportunity as a coming out party.

Tyler Hurst of Lineville, AL had won eight races at his home track, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, coming into NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 15 competition and could have been considered a “one-track wonder.” The four-race “Mini Tour” started at his home track on Thursday night.

The defending NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division National Champion Trey Bright of Coker, AL came calling, as did the defending Mississippi Street Stock Series Champion Calvin Cook of Pace, FL. Hurst defended his home turf at Talladega Short Track by taking his ninth win of the season with Bright finishing second, and Cook coming home seventh in the 17-car field.

After that race, Hurst decided to venture outside of the friendly confines of Talladega Short Track and see what he could do at three Mississippi tracks he had never seen before against the toughest competition the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division and the MSSS had to offer.

The rest of the July 4th Holiday Mini Tour would take Hurst to Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS on Friday night, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS on Saturday night, and Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on Sunday night.

Hurst finished a very respectable fourth at Jackson Motor Speedway on Friday night against a 23-car field in the NSC Heating and Air Chevrolet powered by a $3,295 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine behind race winner Brooks Strength of Byrum, MS in the Reed Pierces Chevrolet, Stacy Robinson of Kosciusko, MS and Jeremy Idom of Hattiesburg, MS.

The next stop was Whynot Motorsports Park on Saturday night where 35 NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stocks signed in. Cook drove the Auto Finance Cars Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to his first win of the season and Kevin Whittington of Brandon, MS took the second spot.

Hurst finished third in an impressive looking top five that also had Bright finishing fourth, and Mark Barnett of Aberdeen, MS in the fifth spot. Hurst was turning heads and getting the attention of his fellow competitors. The “One-Track Wonder” label was now gone.

As the defending NeSmith/AR Bodies Champ Bright pulled into Magnolia Motor Speedway on Sunday, he had to have had the previous Thursday on his mind. Hurst defended his home turf by beating Bright at Talladega Short Track. Now Hurst had ventured into Bright’s house on the “Black Ice” at The Mag.

Hurst won the second heat to earn the outside front row starting spot for the main event with T.K. King of Columbus, MS earning the pole position to lead the 21-car field down for the green flag. Cook would start third and Bright would fire from the seventh starting hole.

A good crowd at Magnolia Motor Speedway had just witnessed National Dirt Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN come from the 15th starting spot to win the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring Division race, but nobody left their seat. They were waiting on the next race, as the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division took to The Mag.

They were waiting to see if this new kid Tyler Hurst from “Shinbone Valley” in the mountains of Eastern Alabama could pull off the win, or would Bright be up to the occasion of defending his home turf. Hurst grabbed the lead at the drop of the green flag followed by King in his 1970s vintage Camaro.

King was driving hard to stay with the Monte Carlo of Hurst, and maybe a little too hard. Coming off the fourth turn, King squared up a large tractor tire that marked the inside of the race track. King’s chariot got airborne, did a pirouette to the left, and landed on top of the tractor tire.

In the meantime, Bright chose the top shelf of Magnolia Motor Speedway to advance himself into contention, riding a cushion that had been pushed right up to the concrete retaining wall by two classes of late models. That route looked a little too treacherous for Hurst, who was committed to the bottom groove of the speedway.

Bright made the top work, as he sailed his 2014 Camaro powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Engine around the outside of Hurst to take the win. Cook briefly moved up to challenge Hurst for second, as to say “I’m pretty good at this joint myself,” but he fell back to finish fourth behind Robinson, who took the third spot.

In four races in four days, at four different tracks, Hurst had a win, a second, a third, and a fourth. Hurst earned the respect of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division drivers outside of Talladega Short Track and became a part of the family.

In other NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division Week 15 action, Larry Faulk of Pace, FL picked up his first win of the season on Friday night at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL driving the L&H Construction Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine.

Stuart Wilson of Milton, FL took the win at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL on Saturday night in his third start of the season in the Wilson Lumber Chevrolet powered by a Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine purchased just a few days earlier from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. Bill Stewart of Lacombe, LA was the winner at St. Tammany Raceway in Lacombe, LA driving the Stewart Racing Chevrolet.

Phillip Haynes of Anniston, AL is seventh in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 517 points and one more week to earn full points before reaching the 14 week point in his season. Haynes drove the Jeff Owens & Associates Chevrolet to a sixth-place finish on Thursday night at Talladega Short Track.

Garrett McDonald of Pace, FL is eighth in the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 489 points and three more weeks to earn full points. McDonald finished outside the top ten on Friday night at Flomaton Speedway in the Copperhead Chassis Chevrolet, but still earned 41 points.

Harris finished fourth on Saturday night at Northwest Florida Speedway driving the Coastal Engine and Machine Chevrolet.

Chevrolet on Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park landed him in the tenth spot of the NeSmith/AR Bodies Street Stock Division standings with 472 points.
