Ray Cook Blasts to Fourth at North Georgia Speedway; Turns Focus to Southern Nationals

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) Ray Cook and the Tommy Pope Racing team struck out to North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Saturday, July 12 for the annual running of the 'Earnest and Raymond Young Memorial.' The Ultimate Super Late Model Series presided over the single-day affair, which boasted a $4,000 top prize.

Ray timed in thirteenth quickest during the qualifying session, but later finished second in the B-Main. After rolling off from the outside of the sixth row in the 40-lap headliner, the Brasstown, North Carolina star blasted past eight competitors en route to a strong fourth place showing. Ray trailed only winner Randy Weaver, Riley Hickman, and Tom Maddox to the checkers. Full results from North Georgia Speedway can be viewed online at www.ultimatesupers.com.

It is that time of year once again where Ray puts his helmet bag to the side and instead focuses his undivided attention on the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series, which is presented this year by Old Man’s Garage. The 10th Anniversary of the ten-race mini-series will kick off on Monday, July 21 at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia. Up until the finale on Saturday, August 2 at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee, the series will snake through the states of Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia to sanction ten shows in a matter of only thirteen days. The next time Ray plans to jump behind the wheel of his #53 machine will be August 8-9 at the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. The annual running of the ‘North/South 100’ will take place at the undersized 1/2-mile oval that weekend and a whopping $50,000 winner’s check will be up for grabs. While Ray did not enter last year’s version of the ‘North/South 100,’ he has posted strong recent finishes in the crown jewel event including fifth in 2010, fourth in 2011, and ninth in 2012.
