Brett Hamm took the FUEL Racing Series weekend by storm by sweeping the $3000 to win features on Friday night at Carolina Speedway and then on Saturday at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. For Hamm, they were his 3rd and 4th wins of the season for the Newberry, SC native who now has 3 consecutive victories in FUEL Racing Series action. The weekend kicked off on Friday night at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC. While the series was rained out during its first attempt at Carolina (June 27th), Mother Nature was very cooperative this time around. Gib Gibbons would once again capture the pole in Klotz Synthetic Lubricants Time Trials. R.E. Suspension Heat Race #1 would see the pole sitter Gibbons finish as a runner up to Donald Bradsher who would drive to the win. In KRC Power Steering Heat Race #2, three time series winner Ross Bailes earned the victory with Brett Hamm finishing 2nd. After the traditional re-draw for the top 4 Brett Hamm would draw the pole position. After starting out front Hamm would never relinquish the lead as he led flag to flag for the win. While several drivers made a valiant effort to chase down the race leader, they would all be denied in front of a packed house. Donald Bradsher, who surged to 2nd with an impressive performance, scored his season best finish with the series via his runner up effort. Ross Bailes, Gib Gibbons and Steve Banal rounded out the top 5 in a fast paced event that yielded only 1 caution flag. Saturday, the FUEL Racing Series headed East for its first visit to Fayetteville Motor Speedway. In Klotz Synthetic Lubricants Time Trials it would be Ross Bailes setting the fastest time and capturing the pole award. In R.E. Suspension Heat Race #1, it would be another dominant Bailes performance as he would prevail with a hard charging Mitchell Coble finishing 2nd. In KRC Power Steering Heat Race #2, an amazing show would unfold as Donald Bradsher, Billy Hicks and Brett Hamm would exchange the lead several times. Hicks would hold on for the win with Hamm finishing 2nd and earning a spot in the redraw along with Hicks, Bailes, & Coble. Brett Hamm would draw the pole for the feature. Billy Hicks joined Hamm on the front row while Bailes and Coble filled up row 2 on the feature starting grid. While Hamm surged to the initial lead, multiple caution flags word force the Newberry, SC driver to reestablish his position at the point through the double file restarts. While most of the caution flags resulted in drivers returning to the speedway to compete, both the track and series officials held their breath on one unfortunate incident. Veteran racer Billy Hicks would go for a scary ride in turn 1 as his #79 would abruptly hit the inside wall during an intense double file restart. While the violent incident severely damaged his car, all in attendance breathed a huge sigh of thanks and relief as the long time racer emerged to walk away from the accident. From there, it was all Hamm once again as his #18 rolled to his 3rd consecutive win and 4th FUEL triumph of the season. Donald Bradsher secured a highly successful weekend by scoring his 2nd consecutive runner up finish and was followed to the finish line by Gib Gibbons, Ross Bailes and Mitchell Coble. Next up for the FUEL Racing Series will be a newly announced trip to Rolling Thunder Speedway in Ararat, VA .
