Jimmy Mars Makes Late Rally to Grab North/South 100 Podium; Batesville Next

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team traveled to the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky on August 8-9 for the 32nd Annual 'North/South 100.' For the first time in its storied history, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series biggie featured a passing points format with double heat races instead of the normal qualifying procedure. Jimmy ran second in his first heat race on Friday night and later wound up fourth in his second prelim of the evening - despite getting caught up in an early race incident.

After placing fifth in his dash on Saturday, Jimmy started the $50,000 to win crown jewel main event from the outside of the fifth row. The Menomonie, Wisconsin pilot, who was looking for his second 'North/South 100' title, then marched past seven competitors during the 100-lap headliner, which was taped by the Lucas Oil Production Studios. Jimmy eventually crossed underneath the checkers third following the entertaining race behind only winner Eddie Carrier, Jr. and runner-up Scott Bloomquist. Full results from Florence Speedway can be accessed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Next up for the Mars Racing team will be another Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned crown jewel event this upcoming weekend (August 15-16) in the state of Arkansas. The 22nd edition of the ‘Topless 100’ will be held at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Arkansas and a hefty $40,000 top prize will be on the line. Qualifying and heat races will be held on Friday night, while the consolation events and the 100-lap ‘Topless 100’ will headline the weekend on Saturday evening.

The high-definition cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios will once again be on hand to tape all of the dirt-slinging action for later this year. Jimmy is a two-time victor of the ‘Topless 100,’ as he took the checkers in 2000 and 2007, while he finished a solid sixth last year.
