Is there a so called sweet spot on cubic inch when building a 2 barrel race engine?

Or is more cubic inch the way to go in all engine builds?

It depends on what your going to do with it. Weight of car, size of track, specific fuel, intake rules, camshaft rules and carburetor choice all make different cid work more efficient.

Size of carb, head rule, and RPM rule are the basis of what C.I. engine if there isn't a rule for that too. As well as what was mentioned above.

2500 lbs, 4412 ct no mods just choke blade removed, cast iron head, 3/8 track, race gas only, any 4 barrel intake with adapter, no rpm rule, just compression rule of 175 lbs, flat tappet cam, stock dia. springs.

My vote would be a 383.

generally inexpensive, easier to make compression, 6" rod options, ample stroke for torque in a heavy car.

Big cubes can make the engine run out of air past the flag stand with a 4412…. don't go too big. Find a custom ground cam to suit YOUR engine… call Mike @ Jones Cams or Charles @ Camcraft Cams.

I'm with lizardracing. The 383 is the way to go with a 2 bbl Carb. Make sure you run 6" rods. If you're on a budget you can buy a lightweight scat 9000 cast crank for like 279$. I've got one in my 358 and I love it. It takes some abuse.

I am kinda partial to the blue oval, I have a .060 over 351w and was wanting to know what stroke to go with 4", 3.85", or 3.75". I mean you can only get so much air through a 4412 and there has to be a limit or a tipping point at witch there is to much CID.
Is the victor junior 2V the best intake to use also?

Not sure on the intake… you do need as much volume as you can get.

The 3.75 crank would give you 382 cubes… Dart iron eagle heads are good if you have the budget (GT40's if you don't). Buy them bare and have a trusted shop do the machine work.

Good valves are important. Go with Jones or Camcraft for a cam… order only after you know all the engine specs exactly.

What about the N351 heads? I currently have GT40P's.

So the general consensus is 383 is CID is the way to go then or somewhere there about.

Forgot about the N351's… use 'em if you can.

You don't need anything bigger than a 382. The two barrel will not be your friend on anything bigger. Use the longest rods you can… within reason. Use a metric ring pack… that can give you another 15-30 HP. Wiseco, Manley and others make good flat top pistons for that application. The lighter the better.

Mike Jones has some proprietary hydraulic lifters that are good… use them if you buy a juice cam from him… don't cheap out. Of course a solid lifter stick would be better.
