Can someone explain exactally how the j bar works. What does it cause to raise on chassis, lower on pinion, lower on both chassis and pinion, and raise on pinion as far as drive off and side bite?

From what I've heard, 1 inch at pinion feels like 2" on frame. Can't say I've noticed it but for split I'd like to know more. I know cars running 4" sit and some 10" split. Then heard too much split can cause loose condition. So maybe someone can chime in on this one.

I'll agree with the too much split cause issues. The J-Bar max out because of the high split will be okay until it maxes that wrecking loose. When more level I think it frees the entry - especially if you don't bring your rearend back to center. With more angle I think it is more aggressive in rear movement and typically tighter. I'm no expert but this is what I think
