Shane Clanton Tops SAS at EAMS; Rome and Dixie Next

Zebulon, Georgia (09/30/14) - After a much needed week away from the track, Shane Clanton made a triumphant return to competition over the weekend in his #25 Weldbank Energy/Capital Race Car/Clements Race Engine Super Late Model by winning the opener of the annual Alabama State Championships at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama).

Thirty-nine competitors registered for Saturday's opening round, which was sanctioned by the Southern All Star (SAS) Racing Series. Clanton earned the third starting spot in the $4,000-to-win feature via qualifications. He trailed race-long leader, Ray Cook until contact with a lapped car gave Shane the opportunity he needed to seize the top spot. With Cook out of contention, Clanton went unchallenged for the remainder of the event for his third victory of the season, which came over Mack McCarter, Clint Smith, Riley Hickman and Tom Maddox.

The finale for the Alabama State Championships was contested on Sunday afternoon, which was again sanctioned by the SAS Racing Series and boasted a $4,000 winner's check. Shane posted the fastest lap in his respective group during time trials before going on to register a fourth place finish in the main event behind race winner, Randy Weaver, Riley Hickman and Chris Madden. Chris Wilson completed the top five finishers.

"It was another great weekend for the team. We have made some big strides over the past month or so," said Clanton. "Marshall (Green) and everyone at Capital has really been busting their tails, and it's showing on the track. I have to thank Ron (Davies) and all of my sponsors for their great support."
