Friday Night Rumble/Bobby Carrier Sr. Memorial KDRA Sportsman Weekend at Ponderosa Speedway October 10, October 11

Junction City, KY-October 4, 2014- The Kentucky Dirt Racers Alliance Sportsman return to action with a doubleheader weekend of racing action at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11 as the KDRA will sanction the Sportsman division for both events.
The pair of events will feature the Sportsman racing 25 laps for $1,000 to win/$125 to start in the Friday Night Rumble on Friday October 11, followed by the first ever Bobby Carrier, Sr. Memorial on Saturday October 11 as part of the track’s Fall Classic, with Sportsman racing 30 laps for $1,500 to win/$125 to start.
The these two KDRA sportsman events are the brainchild of a group of area drivers who are working to grow the division through unified rules across multiple local tracks and present attractive payouts with contingency prizes. The KDRA is working to sanction and organize races for the 2015 season as well. More details will be available in the coming months.

These events are presented by Gabbert’s Garage & Auto Repair, Fraley Automotive Inc, Adams Chassis, Wayne Bowen Racing Supply, Howard Chassis, Central KY Motorsports Expo & Swap Meet, Speedecals, Smokehouse Grill, Gray Racing, Rob Jones Motorsports, Rainmaker Racecars, Wiseman Contracting, Phantom Racing Gear, Drakeford Brothers Starter and Alternator Repair, Raged Edge Racecars, and AR Bodies.

The 7th Annual Friday Night Rumble will take place on Friday October 10 and will feature the KDRA Sportsman racing 25 laps for $1,000 to win/$125 to start. The Friday Night Rumble A-Main payout for October 10 is as follows: 1st- $1,000, 2nd- $500, 3rd- $400, 4th- $375, 5th- $350, 6th- $300, 7th- $250, 8th- $200, 9th- $175, 10th- $150, 11th through 18th- $125 to start. RACEceivers are mandatory in all divisions and can be rented at the track at driver registration. Also in action on Friday October 10 will be the Southern Nationals Bonus Series Super Late Models racing for $2,500 to win, Modifieds for $1,500 to win, and Pro Late Models for $1,000 to win.

The Bobby Carrier Sr. Memorial will take place the following evening on Saturday October 11 and will feature the KDRA Sportsman racing 30 laps for $1,500 to win. The Bobby Carrier, Sr. Memorial A-Main payout is as follows: 1st- $1,500, 2nd- $600, 3rd- $500, 4th- $375, 5th- $350, 6th- $300, 7th- $250, 8th- $200, 9th- $175, 10th- $150, 11th through 18th- $125 to start. RACEceivers are mandatory in all divisions and can be rented at the track at driver registration. Also in action on Saturday October 11 will be the Southern Nationals Bonus Series Super Late Models racing for $7,500 to win, Modifieds for $3,000 to win, and Pro Late Models for $1,500 to win.

The following contingency awards will also be up for grabs each night at Ponderosa Speedway in the KDRA Sportsman division on Friday October 10 and Saturday October 11: Phantom Racing Gear of Lawrenceburg, KY ($200 gift certificate to A-Main winner); Phantom Racing Gear of Lawrenceburg, KY ($100 gift certificate) and Adams Chassis of Laurelville, OH ($100 Cash) overall top qualifier; Phantom Racing Gear of Lawrenceburg, KY ($100 gift certificate) and AR Bodies ($50 gift certificate) of Greenbrier, TN Hard Charger of the Race Award; AR Bodies ($50 gift certificate) of Greenbrier, TN Hard Luck Award (first car that doesn’t transfer to the feature from B-main); Rainmaker Racecars of Berea, KY ($100 gift certificate), Ragged Edge Racecars of KY ($50 gift certificate), and Drakeford Brothers of Danville, KY ($50 gift certificate) randomly distributed throughout field.

The following entry fee will apply for the 7th Annual Friday Night Rumble on Friday October 10: Sportsman- $20. For the Bobby Carrier Sr. Memorial on Saturday October 11, the following entry fee will apply: Sportsman- $25. Also, all divisions will be using scoring transponders at each event and the rental fee for the transponder is covered by the entry fee for the Sportsman division. Tow money will be paid in all divisions both nights, with that being whatever the entry fee is that is paid for that night’s event and racers must start their assigned B-main to be eligible for tow money.

Activities for the 7th Annual Friday Night Rumble on Friday October 10 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will be at 7:00 p.m., with practice laps set for 7:20 p.m. Time trials for the Super Late Model and Modified divisions will be at 7:45 p.m., with racing set for the green flag at 8:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the Friday October 10 Friday Night Rumble event in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under FREE, while a pit pass will be $35.

Activities for the Bobby Carrier Sr. Memorial 30 on Saturday October 11 will see the pit area and general admission areas cleared at 2:30 p.m., with gates set to reopen at 3:00 p.m. A special drivers autograph session will take in the general admission area from 5:15 p.m. until 5:45 p.m., with the drivers meeting set for 6:00 p.m. Practice laps will begin at 6:20 p.m., with Super Late Model and Modified time trials at 7:00 p.m., with racing set for the green flag at 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices for the Saturday October 11 Fall Classic Saving the Ta Ta’s Topless 60 event in the general admission area will be $25 for adults, with children ages 12 and under FREE, while a pit pass will be $40.

The Kentucky Dirt Racers Alliance will sanction the Sportsman portion of the program each evening and the following rules will be in place for each night:
1. Must have stock frame that extends to at least the center of the rear end. Tube frame and front clip only cars NOT allowed.
2. Weight jacks allowed.
3. 1 shock per wheel no coil overs
4. Control arms can be aftermarket type.
5. 3,000 lbs minimum weight
6. No J Bars, No Pull Bars, No Lift Bars, No Coil Over Shocks, No Brake Floaters.
7. Leaf spring rear suspension acceptable
8. Coil spring cars will use factory design ex.-metric cars will have 2 upper and 2 lower trailing arms
9. The center of the #1 spark plug must be centered with front ball joint.
10. 104" wheel base minimum.
11. Steel, Composite or Aluminum body panels will be permitted. Aftermarket stock appearing plastic nose is permitted. No wedge late model type front nose pieces allowed.
12. 8″ maximum rear spoiler permitted. No other spoilers permitted.
13. Cast iron blocks only, no aluminum blocks.
14. Cast iron heads only, no aluminum heads.
15. MSD ignition boxes allowed.
16. No traction control devices of any kind allowed
17. Only 1 carburetor permitted. Gas only. No alcohol.
18. Any Transmission
19. 9″ Ford rear ends are permitted. No Quick Change rear ends allowed.
20. All wheels must be steel 8″ maximum with 1″ lug nuts.
21. Racing wheels and bead locks permitted.
22. Tires – 8 inch Hoosiers A & H or American Racers hard & extra hard only. No chemical alteration of tires.
