Friday Night Rumble Fast Facts and Tidbits
-The Friday Night Rumble was added to the Ponderosa Speedway schedule for the first time in 2007, with an overwhelming response, as a total of 109 race cars in four divisions swelled the pit area at “Kentucky’s Baddest Bullring” to overflowing, with 48 Super Late Models, 31 Modifieds, 23 Sportsman, and 7 Chevettes all in action. Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY would take the lead from Eddie Carrier, Jr. on a restart with about 5 laps remaining and hang on to tie what was his biggest career money (money won) at that point of the second-generation racers young career. Don O'Neal, Eddie Carrier, Jr., Aaron Hatton, and Brad Neat would complete the top five. Other division winners at this event would include Dustin Linville in Modifieds ($1,500 to win), Gerald Haynes, Jr. in Sportsman, and Randy Maybrier in Chevettes.
-The 2008 version of the Friday Night Rumble again saw a pit area full of racing machines, with 32 Super Late Models, 26 Modifieds, 10 Pro Late Models, and 16 Sportsman in action. Jason Keltner of Campbellsville, KY would make a repeat performance and take the $2,000 victory and the Super Late Model portion of the Rumble. Keltner would get the victory over a hard charging Brad Neat, Victor Lee, Zach Carney, and Dustin Linville. Other division winners included Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Modifieds, Bryan Bernhardt of Clearwater, FL in Pro Late Models, and Bartley Grant of Berea, KY in Sportsman.
-The 3rd Annual Friday Night Rumble in 2009 would be presented by Red Buck Cigars and 39 entries would sign in for the night’s activities that took place after better than 1.5 inches of rain had fell on Friday morning. Needless to say, track conditions became rough and choppy and there would be a new winner, but it would be yet another driver from Campbellsville, KY. Jordan Bland would score what would be the biggest win of his young career up to this point by leading every lap of the Friday Night Rumble A-Main that was shortened to 23 laps after a spectacular wreck and flip by Jimmy Crabtree and due to the rough track conditions. Shon Flanary and Dustin Neat would take second and third, while Bobby Wolter, Jr., and first-time visitor Rick Rogers completing the top five. Other division winners for the 3rd Annual Friday Night Rumble included Tommy Gregory of Monticello, KY in Modifieds and Todd Coffman of Junction City, KY in Pro Late Models.
-The 4th Annual Friday Night Rumble for 2010 would see a total of 96 entries on the grounds and Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would be the dominant driver in the Super Late Model portion of the program by leading all 30 laps to collect the $2,000 payday in the NASRA sanctioned event over Greg Johnson, Eric Wells, Victor Lee, and Justin Rattliff. Other division winners were Dusty Maybrier of Stanford, KY in the Colston Paving 25 for Pro Late Models, Benji Lee of Loretto, KY in UMP Modifieds, Scott Beeler of Louisville, KY in Street Stocks, and Johnnie Adams of Somerset, KY in Front Wheel Drives.
-The 5th Annual Friday Night Rumble in 2011 would see 70 race cars jam the pit area and Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, IN would become the fourth different winner of the event by claiming the 30 lap, $2,500 to win event over Dustin Neat, Joey Daniel, Victor Lee, and Stephen Breeding, sanctioned by the first year United Super Dirt Car Series. Other division winners would include Elliott Despain of Campbellsville, KY in Modifieds, Scott Beeler of Louisville, KY in Street Stocks, and Brandon Lucas of New Haven, KY in Front Wheel Drives.
-The Friday Night Rumble event would not be held in 2012.
-After a one year hiatus, the Friday Night Rumble returned for its sixth installment as a stand-alone event and would pay $7,500 to the winner and ninth place starting Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would claim the big payday in a 60 lap event that would see three different leaders and five lead changes. Trailing Marlar at the finish would be Brad Neat, Dustin Linville, 14th starting Justin Rattliff, and Chris Combs. Other division winners at the event would include Benji Lee of Loretto, KY in Modifieds and Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in Sportsman as a total of 68 race cars (33 Super Late Models, 22 Modifieds, and 13 Sportsman) were in the pit area.
-A total of sixty-three (63) different drivers have made the Friday Night Rumble event. Eight drivers made their first Friday Night Rumble event in 2013 and those drivers included Gary Christian, Todd Coffman, Dennis Erb, Jr., Derek Fisher, Steve Francis, John Gill, Dennis Roberson, and Jerry Rutherford.
-There have been thee drivers that have made all six previous Friday Night Rumble events. Those drivers are Dustin Neat, Jeff Watson, and David Webb. Five starts in the events go to Chris Combs, Victor Lee, Dustin Linville, Mike Marlar, Justin Rattliff, and Bobby Wolter, Jr. Drivers making four of the Friday Night Rumble events are Bobby Carrier, Jr., Michael Chilton, Tim Tungate, and Eric Wells.
-The 2014 version of the Friday Night Rumble returns as the opening event to the Fall Classic weekend and will sanctioned for the first-time ever by the Southern Nationals Bonus Series. Super Late Models will race 35 laps for $2,500 to win, Modifieds 25 laps for $1,500 to win, Pro Late Models 25 laps for $1,000 to win sponsored by Jay Construction and Restoration, and KDRA Sportsman 25 laps for $1,000 to win.
