Can someone tell me how the RY45 and the "Ford" engine they run in NASCAR today differ? What components are different? What components are the same? Can NASCAR use aluminum blocks and dry sumps today? Go easy on me guys. I'm just a newly minted Dirt Fan. ...Know quite a bit about drag racing, and very little about Circletrack. I've dabbled in Dirt here and there for 10 years. All of a sudden I'm in love with Dirt.

The RY45 is a wide bore ford designed by Doug Yates and roush. It is a complete different package than the NASCAR ford. Yc version.
NASCAR require steel blocks that are limited to 358 c.I. and must be offered as a factory p/n.

Yes they are dry sump.

Will the cylinder heads interchange between the RY45 and FR9 ?

Nothing is interchange. Except maybe a lifter or rocker in certain cases. things That aren't effected by the bore spacing.

Brian just the parts are over 10k more than the standard d3 stuff. The RY45 is a legit 50k engine with that being said how many have you touched ?? I'm betting zero. Why do you insist on answering questions on subjects you have no knowledge ?? Yes the RY 45 is an all new design that has nothing interchangeable with regular ford stuff. To the original poster call Jack Cornett or Andy Durham and they can tell you all you need to know about the RY45

Wait a minute... Don't the RY45 and the FR9 both have a 4.5" bore spacing? Does either the RY45 or FR9 heads have canted valves?

Brian Gray

Yes they are both 4.5 bore space. Yes they are ccanted valve.

Thank you for the info Brian. One last question... Are both the intake and exhaust valves canted on the RY45?

They are both set at different angles if that is what your asking.

I was wondering if there is a side cant to the intake or exhaust valves on the RY45 heads.

I'm a little late to the party but the from what I worked on I found the engines are quite similar besides one block being aluminium. The only thing I noticed was the timing drives had different bolt patters due the ry45 doesn't have a motor plate. I cannot confirm if the valve angles are the same.

Anyone else looking at the ry45 ??
