The 358 I run I have been as far as 1.75 on the Venturi's it is really what ever you need.

On The NASCAR stuff usually an 830 is what we used

Surely you mean 1.75 baseplate not Venturi ...you should have around a 1.400 Venturi carb for a spec motor.

If you're just planning on picking up an off the shelf 650 or 750, I say it really doesn't matter as neither will perform well without proper metering, jetting, and dialing in for your fuel type, cam, and car weight.
Getting hooked up with a knowledgeable carb guy is money well spent. Every engine and weight combination has its own unique fuel curve demands and an off-the-shelf carb will rarely suite a racing application.
But if you are going to go with off the shelf, the 650 would be "better". Unless you're going to turn that motor crazy high RPMs and/or run on big wide open race tracks, you'll never need the 750 and it will hurt bottom end.

I don't see that Willy's even offers a 650. All there stuff is 750 or 850.

I had a 1.75 Venturi on my 358 at eldora huck . Yes Venturi . It does kill it on the low end but I was having to rev that motor to the moon.

She would run out half way down the back stretch with the 1.55

Your talking out of your a$$ again a carb that size is useless in dirt oval racing. You would use such a carb drag racing with a 7k stahl convertor. I had a 1.59 braswell 4 circuit on a 430 and it was worthless below 4000rpm and when it finally went if would blow the tires off the car . You can't correctly control the power when the carb isn't responsive . KB sold me a 1.410 and the car was a rocket on starts and 10 times more drive able . Maybe the 1.75 carb is why you looped it all alone and took out the leaders ... Honestly dude claiming to need a 1.75 on a 358
Is one of the dumbest things you have said. I understand a 430 will pull nice fuel through the carb than the 358 but if the 1.59was WAY too big for a 430 a 1.75 is sure as hell too big for your 358

I didn't say you need it . I'm saying don't let the numbers get in the way. Give it what it wants.

I didn't loop it all alone birky nailed me as I was pulling off and what you seen was the aftermath

And for the record since my issue was feeding a 358 steel block with a carb way too big. What's your excuse . Did cornet build you an overpriced turd?

No my motor is perfect , unfortunately it's a small part of the equation . I finally had the car decent in the b on Saturday and got taken out in turn 4 on lap 1. Don't worry I'll be back this year. The dyno may say a 1.75 is great on a 358 but a race track doesn't and we don't race dynos.
