What is the maximum hp you can get out of a 365 ci engine. Have heard all kinds of numbers. Was told if it's over 600 the dyno was cheated up.

Doing some math and a max effort build could reach 1000hp. I believe the old Pro Stock truck class was limited to 358 cubic inches. Hell Nascar is limited to 358 cubes and near 900hp.

I could very likely see circle track builds in that cubic inch range reaching 750.

But I do agree that 600 real hp out of a 365 cube circle track build isn't very common either.

back in old 360 days we could get 725 out of one with 18 deg heads. With all the new cams and heads i could see 775 at 9000 rpm

I know a top of the line engine that is over 600. All steel 365

the most ive ever seen out of a 358 with un ported steel heads, flat tappet cam and flat top pistons was around 620hp. there was some aftermarket steel heads out there flowing some unreal numbers that with a roller could probably make 800 plus, but we couldn't run that stuff in limited trim.

So what all these guys are telling you is if you can post the rules we could give you a real world estimate. Heads and rpm is the limiting factors

this is true powerslide, what I posted was the original basic LLM rules that were used for years around the south east, but there changing every year now it seems, some allow rollers, some allow aluminum spec heads and so forth..

The aluminum spec heads will actually make about 60hp less than the RHS raised runner 23* steel heads on a 362ci.

It also depends on the bore and stroke combination. I knew a local racer who purchased a $30000 362 from RYR, only to be dq"ed the first night, for not having a "stock" bore/stroke.

Thats why rules are important.
Question: How much hp can you get out of a 362ci?
Answer: Depends on the rules.

Terry, where steelkiwi and myself race, there are a few engine builders and drivers claiming some stout numbers. The rules are any bore and stroke to reach a max of 365ci, steel block, flat top pistons, any cam/lifter, flat top pistons only, any 23 degree head steel or aluminum no less than 21 degree valve angle, any valve not to exceede 2.080 intake and 1.625exhaust, no raised runner heads, wet or dry sump oil system allowed. I run a big bore short stroke with 635hp and 530 torque and feel that is pretty stout with no porting and polishing. A few guys claim to have 675-700+hp, I call bullcrap, i would have maybe 650hp with port and polish...

You are right.Without raised runner ported heads and dome pistons it is imopssible on an honest dyno to make 700hp.With RHS raised runner steel heads ported, ported 2926 intake,14.5 compression, light crank rods and pistons,it is easy. You have to remember it all about tecking the engine.Very few unported steelhesds will make 700hp.
