CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series will showcase NeSmith Late Model drivers 18 years of age and younger, offer a $3,000 point fund that will pay $1,000 to the series champion, and pay back ten spots in the final 2015 point standings. All NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Members 18 years of age and younger are automatically enrolled in the series.

Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series drivers are eligible to earn points at any NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Touring race, or at any NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series event. If a driver competes in more than one NeSmith Weekly Racing Series event during the assigned week, only their highest point total will count for that week.

The points system that will used for the 2015 Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series will be based on the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points system that awards 50 points for a win, and a one-point drop for every position back to tenth. Drivers finishing tenth on back in the main event will earn 41 points. Drivers that attempt to compete, but do no start the feature race will be awarded 41 points.

Also like the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series points system, a Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series driver will count their best 14 finishes towards their season total. Once a driver reaches the 14 race mark of their season, they may try to net points by replacing the lowest point number with a higher one.

“We’re excited about being involved as the Young Guns Challenge Series sponsor and the Official Racing Fuel of NeSmith Racing for the 2015 season and beyond,” Race Division Director of Green Oil Company, distributor for Sunoco Race Fuels John Cook said. “We’re proud to do what we can for the Young Guns and the rest of the drivers that are members of NeSmith Racing.”

After the first five NeSmith Late Model National Touring races and the first two weeks of NeSmith Weekly Racing Series action, 12-year-old Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, FL leads the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series point standings. Clem has 135 points after one top five finish and three top ten finishes in three National Touring events driving the Vahlco Wheels Rocket.

Michael Lake of Uniontown, PA is second in the Sunoco Young Gun Challenge Series standings with 123 points. The 13-year-old driver has one top ten finish driving the Bobby Lake Motorsports Special in the first three National Touring events.

Another 13-year-old driver, Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is third in the Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series standings with 92 points earned in the first two weeks of NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series competition. Skinner finished second in the NeSmith Late Model feature race on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL driving the Skinner Body Shop CVR.
