WAYCROSS, GA – With a high percentage of rain and thunderstorms in the area for tonight, NeSmith Racing and Waycross Motor Speedway officials have agreed to cancel the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series portion of the racing program on Saturday night at Waycross Motor Speedway.
The track will attempt to run their local weekly show, and invited the NeSmith cars to stay and compete for $1,000-to-win in the local Late Model Division event. Friday night’s event was run despite thunderstorms and lightning all around the track.
Even though the rain did not fall at the track Friday night, it was enough to keep both fans and competitors from attending. The weather forecast for Saturday night was for more of the same creating a higher financial risk for all involved.
The next event for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be a two-day show at Duck River Raceway Park in Wheel, TN on May 1 and 2 highlighted by a 75-lap $5,000-to-win main event. Qualifying and Heat Races will take place on May 1, with the B-Mains and the feature event on May 2.
The NeSmith Late Models will now move their 200th Race Celebration to Duck River Raceway Park on May 1 and 2. Many of the drivers that helped make the history of those 200 races since 2005 will be in attendance.
