Rick Eckert Rolls to World of Outlaws Late Model Series Victory at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY-May 8, 2015- The World of Outlaws Late Model Series made their first-ever appearance at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening and Rick Eckert of York, PA would earn a $10,000 payday in his first-ever visit to the track. Other feature event winners for the night included J.T. Ayers of New Haven, KY in Sweet Beans and Things Modifieds, Todd Coffman of Parksville, KY in Premier Integrity Solutions Pro Late Models, and Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY in Lawson Tractor Sales and Service KDRA Super Stocks.

Mason Zeigler and Darrell Lanigan would bring the field to the green flag and Lanigan would open up an early lead, while Rick Eckert and Shane Clanton would settle into second and third by lap 5. The pace would be slowed on lap 12 when Dustin Linville would make contact with the frontchute retaining wall and would end his night. The restart saw Lanigan maintain the lead, while Eckert and Clanton would battle for second. As the field saw the halfway signal on lap 25, Lanigan would close in on the rear of the field and start the process of working slower traffic, allowing Eckert and Clanton to close in on him. As the action heated up in traffic, Eckert would make his move and take the race lead on lap 29. Two circuits later, Lanigan and Clanton would make contact in turn two and the end result would be Lanigan suffering right front suspension damage with him collecting Justin Rattliff to bring out the caution on lap 32. The restart would stay green for one circuit before Brad Neat, Brandon Overton, and Chase Junghans would tangle in turn one. When action resumed, Eckert continued to maintain the lead, while 12th starting Chub Frank would close in on Clanton. The final caution waved on lap 44 when Mason Zeigler would suffer a flat right rear tire. The final few laps would see Eckert keep Clanton at bay and score the victory in the Paul Crowl Motorsports owned Vipor Risk Management/Monumental Paving and Construction/Priority Construction/National Concrete/J&K Salvage/Lillie Dane Seal Coating/Ritchey Sandblasting/Eckert Trucking/BMW Construction sponsored #7 MasterSbilt by Huey Race Car powered by a Cornett Race Engine. Clanton would take second, with Frank finishing a close third. Josh Richards and Dale McDowell would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be James Rice, 24th starting Eric Wells, Kent Robinson, Brandon Kinzer, and Michael Chilton. Forty entries would see Eckert as overall top qualifier at 14.006 seconds, while heat race wins went to Clanton, Zeigler, Linville, and Dale McDowell. The B-Mains were won by Steve Francis and Chase Junghans, while series provisional starters were Morgan Bagley and Eric Wells.

The Sweet Beans and Things Modified division would race for $2,500 to win and Ryan Thomas would lead early on, fending off the challenges of J.T. Ayers and Michael England. However, Ayers would flex his muscle and show his strength when he took the lead on lap 12 and would stave off repeated challenges from Michael England to score his second straight win and third of the season aboard the Don Ayers owned Boone’s Butcher Shop/Western Crane Service/Snap On Tools/After Hours Body Shop/MVP Garden/Guy’s Building Supply sponsored #28 Bandit Race Car sporting a Dale Meers Race Engine.
