Me and buddy of mine was talking today, and this question came up. What is the shortest track in the country that Super Late Models races on?

I knew if I asked yall here on 4m.net then we would find our answer.

Has to be Macon or bellvegas I would imagine. Only been to macon out of the two of them but racing on anything smaller than that just seems crazy

Yep. Belle Clair and Macon are the smallest I have ever seen. Definitely an example of the analogy of flying fighter jets around inside a hangar.

Had a buddy race at Macon once. I think it was a 40 or 50 lap feature that went caution free. I think they were on track about 10-12 minutes.

Hammerdown was a true 1/4 mile. Macon and Belle Clair are called 1/5ths. And they look a little smaller than that place. Now that was definitely an..uh...interesting place. The tower and stands right on top of track.

There is a dirt track in Salem Indiana that ran late models once and it is considered a 1/5 track. It did not workout well at all. I've seen it and it makes Macon look like Eldora!!

I remember a small track in central P.A. called Gambler raceway.

I'm from South Carolina and the shortest track around here that Late Models race on will be Fairgrounds Speedway in Shelby, North Carolina.

My dad used to tell stories about Memorial Stadium in Daytona which was built around a football field. He said they used to start 50-60 cars which were the Nascar modified/Sportsmen.

You are correct. Those are the only two 1/5 mile tracks that currently run super lates.

Macon, Bellclare and closed Macomb IL where all 1/5 miles, built in the late 40s for Midgets. I always got confused, between Macon and Macomb. Midgets where the top class in the Midwest in the post war years. They also raced at Soldier Field, in Chicago at that time. It is said, they drew 50,000 fans for a race there. Seems like there was a small track around Madison WI. at one time.

I've seen pics of them racing at Soldier Field. That had to be insane. Couldn't tell you how many cars were on the track but it was a sh1tload. And the stands were jam packed.

Bradford Speedway in PA. to listed as a 1/4 mile, but I have my doubts. Maybe around the outside.

Macon has to be the smallest and provides some of the best racing you'll ever see.
Belle Clair is a bit bigger but not much. Only been there once and it was the best night of racing I've ever seen in 52 years of going to the races.

Never saw LM at Memorial Stadium in Daytona but I went to some midget races there in the 70's. Not only was it short, it was narrow and flat. I can't imagine LM racing there.

A friend of mine raced USAC Stock Cars at Soldier's Field in the 60's. He said they'd bolt on their beat up sheet metal for the Soldier's Field shows.

Thank you all for answering my question, I've seen videos of Macon and Belle Clair. Would love to go see a race at both of them.

When WOO scheduled their first race at Bell Clair, I said I'd like to have a view of the Eyes of the drivers as they pulled in and seen the track. What makes this small track look even smaller is it has walls, inside and out. They only try to use the out side one. It's part of the cushion. LOL

Pennsylvania Late Model Speedweek at Path Valley is gonna be interesting. Track is high banked and tiny. 410's are great there.

In September at Chilton Speedway for there fall classic they race late models. The track I believe is a 1/4 mile. It might even be a 1/5 mile track. This track is in Chlton, WI.

It's the shortest dirt tracks I've been to and it's a pretty fast lil quarter track. It has been about 4 yrs. since last time I went there. I haven't been back there since they pulled the SLM out. But still Toccoa Speedway is my hometrack. God willing, I may make my first trip back to Toccoa next wknd for the Ultimate Dirt SLM Series. Casey Roberts is gonna win this race.

They're not as small as Macon or Belleville, but I have seen Supers run at 67 Speedway near Texarkana,Arkansas, and Riverside in West Memphis,Arkansas. They're both bullrings for sure!

I would be curious as to Caseys reply to this after winning at Albany. That track is an old high school football stadium.

Isn't Flomaton a 1/4? I've been there and it didn't strike me as being all that small. They had an outstanding flagman that was a real showman when I was there several years ago.

The old Fairbury track wasn't much bigger than Macon. They reconfigured it around 1989. They lengthened the straights to the west and moved the back straight out. The old track was really tight and narrow, but mostly rough. Only dirt track I ever saw that didn't have a grader. Oh yeah, it was dark too. Especially off of turn 2. It's so much better now.

Agree. None of the tracks mentioned are nowhere close to being as small as Macon or Belle Clare. Their might be another 1/5 mile track out there somewhere, but they are not running Supers on it.

There's at least 2 of the 1/5s out here in Caifornia; Ventura Speedway which runs Sprints and Modifieds as the top classes and the Orland Speedbowl in northern Cal. A spec sprint class and the Super Stocks, our class, were the top classes. Unfortunatley, Orland closed, again, last June but is reopening, again, this year and is renamed Sacramento Valley Raceway but are going to more lower buck hobby type classes so, sadly, we're out. It was a fun place to run on off nights at our regular haunts. But no SLMs at either. It's darned hard to find the Super Lates much of anywhere out here as the tracks mosty seem to be obsessed with Sprints. Too much travel for too few bucks is killing them.

Peoria Speedway, which gets a lot of my money is small also (1/4 mile I think) but every time I go to Macon and step inside and look at that track, it's like dammm!

Ok. These are not Supers, but check out this video at around the 3 minute mark...

I-40 Speedway right next door to the old Atomic Speedway... You can see the old buildings in the background.

That has to be one of the smallest tracks to race full size cars...

Cottage Grove in Oregon looks pretty small also. I found some cool old vintage races from there also!

Yes, back in '08 or '09 sometime to build a truck terminal. Here's a link to the I-40 raceway Facebook page.
