SOUTHERN ALL STAR DIRT RACING SERIES PR#20

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Volunteer Speedway hosts Southern All-Star Racing Series 'Scott Sexton Memorial' on Saturday, June 13

BULLS GAP, TN — The Southern All-Star Racing Series will visit Volunteer Speedway for the third annual Scott Sexton Memorial on Saturday, June 13, with the 52-lap Super Late Model event paying $5,200-to-win.

Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., and Brad Neat of Dunnville, Ky., have respectively won the first two Scott Sexton Memorial events.

Also racing besides the Southern All-Star Super Late Models will be Sportsman Late Model ($700-to-win), Modified Street ($500-to-win) and Pure Stock divisions.

The SAS Super Late Model racing program will consist of White Performance/Schaeffer Oil qualifying and PPM Racing Products B-mains to determine the first 22 starting positions, with two series provisional spots completing the 24-car starting field.

The race honors one of East Tennessee's all-time best behind the wheel of a dirt Super Late Model. The 46-year-old Sexton, from Pigeon Forge, passed away on January 10, 2013 after a seven year health battle.

Sexton was a prominent fixture in the regional racing scene for more than 25 years. He began his racing career at the age of 6 and was an accomplished 8-time World Karting Association World Champion before moving into dirt Late Models in 1986, where he quickly became a fan favorite around the region, earning the nickname "Superman."

Between 1995 and 2005, Sexton won 10 Southern All-Star Racing Series events between Atomic Speedway and Volunteer Speedway, and was the track champion in 1991 and 1995 at Volunteer Speedway. Scott was known as one of the most fan-friendly drivers in East Tennessee, always participating in charitable events and usually donating his winning trophies to children at the track. Sexton will always be remembered for giving back to the sport he loved so much.

Two-time defending Southern All-Star Racing Series champion Riley Hickman of Cleveland, Tenn., will lead series drivers into the Scott Sexton Memorial 52 along with Todd Morrow of East Ridge, TN., Dillon Tidmore of Glencoe, AL., Chris Wilson of Crossville, TN., Mike and Skylar Marlar of Winfield, TN. Plus expect to see a strong contingent of racers from around East Tennessee led by five-time Volunteer Speedway Super Late Model champion Vic Hill of Mosheim, and possibly Chad Ogle of Sevierville, Mark Douglas of Knoxville, Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Mark Vineyard of Powell, Stacy Boles of Clinton, Cory Hedge(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) of Loudon, Bobby Mays of Jonesborough, Roger Best of Louisville, Jeff Wolfenbarger of Clinton, Mack McCarter of Gatlinburg, Forrest Trent of Talbott, Dusty Carver of Englewood, Ellery Leake of Knoxville, Donald McIntosh of Blairsville, GA., along with others.
