*NOTE (How drivers are entered into the $5,000 #FALS Draw Feature on Friday)*
Fairbury American Legion Speedway officials are excited to announce the details for the one-of-a-kind-#FALS Draw showdown as part of the 26th Annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend racing festivities scheduled for July 24-25.
This unique, exciting race will draw together some of the best local, state, and national drivers to compete for a $5,000 top prize during the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series sanctioned Prairie Dirt Classic qualifying night program on Friday, July 24.
Fresh of earning back-to-back DirtonDirt .com National Race of the Year honors with the Prairie Dirt Classic , FALS officials enlisted a panel of national dirt-track advisors to add a special race to the huge weekend that is sure to excite the fans and test the drivers.
Drivers entering the two-day, $26,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic will have the opportunity to qualify into the 18-car #FALS Draw showdown field. The most direct will be winning one of Friday nights six heat races.
Beyond the heat victors, drivers will be broken down into four groups at registration -- Fairbury drivers, Illinois drivers, World Of Outlaws Drivers, and National drivers. Drivers racing in at least half of the nights at Fairbury American Legion Speedway will be designated 'Fairbury drivers; those living in the state of Illinois will be considered Illinois drivers; those that have competed in 100% of the WOO shows in 2015 will be in the 'World Of Outlaws' group an; and any other entrant not meeting criteria for one of the first three groups will be designated 'National' drivers.
Once the first six showdown entrants are determined from the heats, eight more drivers will earn berths in the event based on current points standing and the DirtonDirt.com top 25 rankings. The top 2 drivers in the Fairbury points and the top 2 in WOO points standings leading up to the PDC weekend will be locked into the #FALS Draw, while the Illinois and National drivers will be determined by using the latest DirtonDirt.com top 25 ranking released earlier in the week (the two highest rated drivers in each category).
Finally, the showdown's 15th entrant will be the highest-finishing Fairbury driver in the Farmer City (ILL.) Raceway's $15,000-to-win WOO Illini 100 event on April 18th and the 16th, 17th, and 18th competitors will be determined from a fan vote starting July 1st and running until noon on Friday, July 24th -- the day of the #FALS Draw. Fans will have the opportunity to vote on the Fairbury American Legion Speedway website for their favorite driver attending the Prairie Dirt Classic, with the three drivers receiving the most votes selected to compete in the race. Winners off the fan vote berths will be announced immediately following the Friday night's heat races.
After the 18 entrants have been set, the showdown's starting positions will be determined by a unique draw in front of the FALS "crazies" on the backstretch . Drivers will bring two crew members and their cars onto the track without knowing where they will start, and then the drivers will line up across the backstretch from the evenings fastest qualifying time to the slowest qualifying time. With 18 starting position "draw" cards randomly placed down on the track, the fun will then begin. After the fastest qualifier of these 18 is introduced and interviewed, he will draw one of the "draw" cards, show the fans and then give that starting spot to a driver of his choice.
Remaining drivers (starting with 2nd fastest on down to 18th fastest) will draw and hand starting spots for the 25-lap, $5,000-to-win Showdown to other drivers as well -- a unique format indeed! If 1 is drawn, who will it be given to? If 18 is drawn who will receive that "gift". Nobody knows what loyalties, rivalries, feuds will come into play as drivers pass starting spots to others! Once a driver has been given a starting spot , he will not be able to trade it away, thus setting up the 25 laps, $5,000-to-win Showdown.
Adding even more intrigue to the event will be the three bonus awards, including a $500 bonus to any driver who can crack the top 3 from starting spots in the last 2 rows and a pair of Hard Charger Awards ($1,000 to the driver who passes the most cars and $500 to the racer who passes the second-most). The bonuses set up the interesting twist where drivers can earn more money by starting deeper in the pack.
The #FALS Draw Showdown provides even more excitement to the already blockbuster 26th Annual Prairie Dirt Classic, which this year offers a track-record $26,000 top prize. Hot Laps, Qualifying , Heat Races and the Showdown are set for Friday, July 24th, with B-Mains, the 100-lap PDC, and the PDC Shootout Non-Qualifiers' feature scheduled for Saturday, July 25th. In addition , tow UMP Modified shows will pay $2,000 to the winner each night as part of the Summit Modified Nationals Championship Weekend.
