Jason Hughes Snares MARS Checkers at Monett; Mega 100 Next

Westville, Oklahoma (07/07/15) – Jason Hughes added another accolade to his career by claiming his first-career victory with the Mid America Racing Series (MARS) DIRTCars Super Late Models on Thursday evening at Monett Speedway.

Jason Hughes made the trip to Monett Speedway (Monett, Missouri) on Thursday night for a MARS DIRTcar Series (MARS) event, where he piloted the Tommy Weder Jr. #02H Bloomquist/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model. With 28 entries signed in for the John Kuntz Memorial, Jason logged a heat race victory positioning him at the front of the grid for the feature event. Battling for $3,000 payday in the Andy’s Frozen Custard A-Main, Jason Hughes captured his first Super Late Model victory of the season with Justin Asplin, Terry Philips, Tony Jackson Jr., and Brandon McCormick completing the top five.

On Friday night Jason visited Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Oklahoma) to compete in the two day show sanctioned by both MARS and Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA). In a field of 31 Super Late Models, Hughes earned his way into the Freedom Classic with a 4th place outing in his heat. Battling for a $3,000 paycheck, Jason Hughes recorded an 8th place finish when the checkers flew at the end of the 30-lapper.

The following night the winner’s check was increased to $5,000 dollars, but Hughes wouldn’t have as good of luck as he fell back in the 40-lap Freedom Classic. Following a 3rd place finish in his heat, Hughes logged a 23rd place outing in the Andy’s Frozen Custard A-Main hosted by the MLRA and MARS.

“It was great to get the win at Monett,” noted Hughes. “I can’t thank Tommy (Weder) enough for letting me drive one of his cars. He gave me a great piece, and we were able to capitalize on the opportunity.”
