USCS Outlaw Thunder presented by K&N Filters winged sprint cars headline “Thunder in the Smokies” racing card at Smoky Mountain Speedway this Thursday (July 16th)
July 13, 2015 - Atlanta, GA - The United Sprint Car Series "Outlaw Thunder" Tour presented by K&N Filters www.uscsracing.com winged sprint cars will headline this Thursday night’s “Thunder in the Smokies” racing program at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tennessee. The event is the one and only visit scheduled during the 2015 season for the USCS winged sprint cars to the speedway. This special week night event is expected to bring top winged sprint cars and drivers from at least six states to the track. The exotic fire breathing, alcohol burning, 700 horsepower open wheel cars weight just 1,300 pounds, and are pound for pound the World’s most powerful short track race cars.
The race will award USCS National championship points as well as points in both the USCS Mid South Thunder and USCS Southern Thunder regional series title chases. The USCS Mid South Thunder regional series consists of races scheduled in Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. The Southern Thunder regional series consists of races in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and both Carolinas. Drivers from each regional series will go head to head for cash and glory for the East Tennessee race fans.
Twenty-two year female sprint car hot-shoe Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee currently leads both the USCS National sprint car standings and the USCS Mid South Thunder Tour regional series standings as well. Turpen came into the 2015 season as the top ranked female sprint car driver in North America.
Currently, eleven-time and defending USCS National Champion Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee trails her in the USCS National point standings in 2nd. Place coming into the Smoky Mountain Speedway event.
Thursday night entries also include May, 2014 USCS winner at “the Mountain’, Anthony Nicholson from Millington, Tennessee and 2013 USCS National Champion Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas. Hagar won the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour main event at Smoky Mountain Speedway in May of 2013.
Another potent entry and USCS series point’s leader, twenty year old, Eric Riggins, Jr, from Charlotte, North Carolina leads the USCS Southern regional series team of drivers into this two region\ “Showdown”. Riggins is a three-time 3025 USCS feature winner.
On Thursday night USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour sprint car action will feature a full program of racing that kicks off with test and tune hot laps. Hot laps will be followed by the Hoosier Speed Dash that showcases the top six cars from the previous USCS main event in an edge-of-your-seat six-car shootout. The qualifying heat races will be next on the racing card. The evening’s grand finale will be the USCS presented by K&N Filters A-main event.
In addition to the winged sprint cars, Thursday’s special events include some of the area’s top Limited Late Models who will be racing for a $2000 top prize and Street Stocks will be awarded a $750 pay check.
