Jeep Van Wormer Sixth in Birthday Race at Oakshade; Midweek Visit to Eldora Next

(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) The #55 team and driver Jeep Van Wormer were in the pit area at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Michigan and Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio over the July 10-11 weekend. On Friday night at the nearby Tri-City Motor Speedway, Jeep won his heat race from the tail and later started the $1,055 to win weekly headliner from the inside of the sixth row. The Pinconning, Michigan ace then stormed to the front and was battling for the lead when he ventured a little high on the track and into the wall. The bout with the outside concrete relegated Jeep to a disappointing fourteenth place performance.

At Oakshade on Saturday evening, the final event of the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour took place and a $10,000 top prize was on the line in the annual 'Birthday Race.' Jeep clicked off the fastest lap in his group during qualifying prior to scoring the victory in his stacked heat race. After drawing the outside of the front row prior to the drop of the green flag in the 60-lapper, Jeep unfortunately suffered from a soft tire combination and slipped back to sixth at the checkers to finish behind only race winner Billy Moyer, Jr., Casey Noonan, Jason Feger, Dona Marcoullier, and Bobby Pierce. Complete results from both venues can be accessed online at www.tricityracetrack.com and www.oakshaderaceway.com.

Jeep and his Iron Motorsports team have elected to take the upcoming July 17-18 weekend off from Dirt Late Model competition. They will next be in action on July 21-22 at the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Racing along with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the ‘Mudsummer Classic,’ Jeep will vie for a pair of $2,000 winner’s checks at the “Big E.” Tuesday’s race will be sanctioned by the American Late Model Series (ALMS), while Wednesday’s show will be unsanctioned.
