On Friday night Rodney Sanders headed to I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska), pulling double duty in both his Open Wheel Modified and Super Late Model during the 5th Annual Silver Dollar Nationals.

With Friday night’s show featuring double heat races for the Lucas Oil Late Dirt Late Model Series (LOLMDS), Rodney landed a pair of top five finishes. With the starting line-up in Saturday's feature event determined by passing points, Sanders logged a 3rd and 4th place finish in the two rounds of heat action. His performances locked him into the 15th starting spot for Saturday night’s finale.

Advancing four spots in his heat from 7th to 3rd, Rodney capitalized on his pole position starting spot for the 35-lap feature event with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) on Friday evening. With twenty-four entries battling for the $3,000 payday, Sanders held his starting spot throughout the event to record the victory with Jason Hughes, Jeremy Payne, Terry Phillips, and Dereck Ramirez rounding out the top five.

Starting in the 15th position on the grid for Saturday night’s $32,000-to-win, Silver Dollar Nationals finale with the LOLMDS, Rodney looked to charge through the field. With 80 laps set on the scoreboard, Sanders experienced mechanical issues early in the feature as smoke began billowing from underneath the hood of his mount. As a result, he would be forced to retire from the event.

Switching over to his Modified, Rodney Sanders edged his way into the feature event on Saturday evening with a 5th place outing in his heat. Starting in 13th for the 35-lap Casey’s General Stores A-Main, Rodney wheeled his way to the front by lap 15, cruising to his 17th win of the season. Capturing another $3,000 payday, Sanders ousted Jason Hughes, Jesse Sobbing, Terry Phillips, and Brian Green.

“Even though we had bad luck in the Super Late Model, we had another fantastic weekend overall,” noted Sanders. “I definitely love getting to race at I-80 Speedway, and it’s been really good to me over the past several years.”

Rodney is currently leading the USMTS Standings. For more results from these events, please visit www.USMTS.com and www.LucasDirt.com .

Sanders now sets his sights on a very lucrative week of racing with the USMTS tour. Action begins on Tuesday night with a $3,000-to-win affair at Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa). From there the attention shifts to the 5th Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship, which will be held Thursday through Saturday, July 23rd-25th. The event culminates with a $20,000-to-win/$1,500-to-start finale on Saturday evening. Rodney is the defending champion of the event. For more information on the event, please visit www.USMTS.com .
