I am curious what length shaft "should be" in a smack car with standard length bars. Standard motorplate location. I will measure it too, just looking for a reference. Thanks.

I use a 38.5" with a Bert ball spline transmission.

I believe they say a 38 inch. I use a 36" with a long yolk (standard Bert).

I'm running an original style Brinn.

Length will change with engine setback.

I measured my smackdown car to night so I can order a new drive shaft. With an original brinn trans and standard length bars the tail shaft of trans to yoke on rearend measured 39 1/8. So that tells me that a 38in drive shaft would be to long, if you measure 38in center to center of ujoints.

I believe a Brinn is 2" longer than a Bert (or a Brinn is the same as a stock manual trans and the Bert is 2" shorter, however you look at it). Just to confirm, your rear end is at ride height and not hanging down (like when the car is on jack stands)? Also keep in mind as the rear end "wraps up" under acceleration the drive shaft comes forward.
