Spring Nationals Series Set to Conclude 201 Speedway Event on September 3rd

By Chris Tilley, Series P.R. Coordinator

BRASSTOWN, NC (August 27, 2015)—After a five month break in the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series by Schaeffer’s Oil feature event at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky., officials are ready to resume the race from the beginning and the full distance of 30 laps will be ran on Thursday Night September 3rd. The Spring Nationals Series make-up race will jump start the Revelution Race Cars Iron-Man Speed Week which will being immediately after that race.

Rains plagued the event back on April 2nd and after three rain delays the field was finally set through qualifying, heat races and provisionals. The field was then brought to the green flag for the start of the 30-lap $4,000-to-win Johnny Sayler Memorial main event with David Payne and Tim Dohm at the point. A hard crash involving Shannon Thornsberry on lap one brought out the red flag. As track crews attended to Thornsberry’s mangled machine, rains came and halted the main event. Teams were sent back to the pits as officials reviewed the radar. After a half of an hour delay, officials decided to pull the plug on the night’s action with no laps complete in the main event.

Kenneth Howell was the fastest of the thirty car field with a 12.941 second lap. The Dash winner was David Payne. Heat race winners were Shannon Thornsberry, R.J. Conley and Eric Wells. Provisonals from 2014 points went to Donald McIntosh and Brandon Kinzer. All drivers in attendance received 75 show-up points toward the championship totals.

After Hot Laps on September 3rd, the 22-car field from April 2nd will be lined up and sent to green for 30 laps paying $4,000-to-win. Only cars that are set in the field from April 2nd may run the event.

Following the 30-lap make-up Spring Nationals Series race, a complete show of Time Trials, Heat Races, Last Chance Races and the 30-lap $3,000-to-win Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned Iron-Man Classic Speed Week race will be ran. Also in action will be the Iron-Man Speed Week Modifieds running for $1,000-to-win and the Bombers and Four Cylinders will also be on the racing card.

Ticket prices for the September 3rd event are $20.00 for adults in the grandstands and $35.00 for an adult pit pass. The pits will open at 3:00 pm and the Driver’s Meeting is set for 6:45 at Thursday. Race Fans will get to see two features that night on top of all the preliminary action plus support classes at 201 Speedway.

To simplify tire rules for the September 3rd event, officials have announced a tire rule change for the Spring Nationals make-up race and the Iron-Man Speed Week race at 201 Speedway. The Hoosier LM40, 1300, 1350 and 1600 (also Lucas equivalents allowed) also the American Racer 44, 48 and 56 compounds. The remaining Speed Week events at Ponderosa, Richmond and Tazewell will revert back to the two-compound 1350/1600 and 48/56 rules.
