Rothbury, Michigan (Friday, September 4th, 2015): The Labor Day weekend was kicked off with a full racing program at the fast 3/8ths (0.375) mile high-banked dirt oval of Winston Speedway located in Rothbury, Michigan. There was a full racing program headlined by the annual Stock Car Special. The night also featured a Michigan Dirt Modified Special and Four-Cylinder Warrior Special. The Late Models, and UMP DIRTcar Modifieds were on hand as well. The Stock Car Special was the first main event of the evening to hit the racing surface led out by the Kendall Marlink and Derek Poland. This race featured drivers from both the street stocks and bomber divisions. The green flag dropped on the 35-lap affair with Poland jumping out to the early advantage. He was able to lead until lap 7 when he would suffer mechanical issues and be forced to return to the pits. The lead then fell to Robbie Sternberg who would go on from there to take home the checkered flag. The 23-year old Sternberg won behind the wheel of the Stern’s Towing #73. Mark Farber finished second. Dan Wilson Jr., Robb Sternberg, and Paul Namey rounded out the top five. The heats were won by Farber, Poland, and Robbie Sternberg. Duane Tenbrink won the B-Main. The Four-Cylinder Warrior special was out next with Ryan Hamm and Mike Goodwin on the front row. This race also featured competitors from both the Warriors and the Young Guns classes. Hamm took the early lead in the beginning of the 20-lap feature event. That would turn out to be all that Hamm would need to do. He would go on from there to lead every lap including the one that counted to pick up the win. Hamm scored the win in his Hamm racing #9. Goodwin had to settle for second. Brian Carson, Buck Spencer, and 17-year old Kristina Johnson finished off the top five. Carson, Goodwin, and Hamm were the heat winners. 16-year old Chelsey Allen won the B-Main, and Goodwin won the Australian Pursuit. Josh Grabe and Steve Fairbanks led out the Michigan Dirt Modifieds 25-lap main event. Fairbanks took the lead in the early going. He would pull out to healthy advantage over the rest of the field. He would actually go on unchallenged leading every single lap of the race to get the victory. This was the 42-year old from Twin Lake, Michigan’s second win of the season in the Eagle Automotive #66. Myron DeYoung finished second. Tim Tuttle, Chad Mauer, and Ted Cooper made up the rest of the top five. Mauer and DeYoung won the heats. The 25-lap Late Model feature was out next. Steve Fairbanks and Rob Taylor made up the front row. Fairbanks pulled away with the lead when the green flag waved. He was able to pull out to a healthy lead with everyone else fighting for position behind him. Despite what all of the other competitors tried to do, there was no stopping Fairbanks from leading every single circuit in the race to score the win, giving Fairbanks two feature wins on the same night. This was the 42-year old driver who calls Twin Lake, Michigan second win of the season in his Eagle Automotive #51. Tom Sprague Jr. was the runner up. Alan Vochaska, Ryan Vanderveen, and Kyle Borgman completed the top five. Taylor and Sprague won the heats. The final event of the night belonged to the 25-lap UMP DIRTcar Modifieds main event. Milt Montgomery and Paul Johnson led the field down to the front stretch to the green flag. However it was John Hammerle who led the first lap of the race. Hammerle would never look back from there as he would go unchecked in his quest to be the first to the finish line. The Muskegon, Michigan native picked up his first win of the year.
