Flashlight official at Eldora scales

I noticed this year for the first time that after each race as the cars were on the scales, an official with a flashlight would shine the light at the inside of the right rear, shine it at the inside of the left rear, then go back and lean on the fence until the next car came across. Can anybody tell me what he was looking at/for?

I would appreciate any help to get me out of head scratching mode.

I would assume they were making sure there were 3 shocks on the rear end. Heard they had a maximum of 6 shock per car rule this weekend

Last night at Farmer City, the official (I think it was a UMP official) was looking at every Modified's left rear tire with a flashlight while the other guy was checking their weight on the scales after time trials. Didn't look if they did that for the late model cars too.
