Can get that for $160.00 today, setting up a new shop.

You guys think 2 ton is suitable ? Appears to be 1/2 ton at max pickup length, but even that should be fine to hoist a motor out of a late model, right ? I like that it's folding.

Anyway, just looking for opinions on it .. thanks !

Measure the distance from the hook fully extended to the jack or what would hit on the nose and make sure it will go far enough in to actually reach the engine lift plate. Some will barely make it and you may need to install or make a lead weight to hang on the back of the cherry picker if your changing engines by yourself cause they can tip when fully extended if you can't extend the legs out far enough cause they hit the frame or lower control arms or something

Just my 2 cents

If you own the shop or plan on staying any length of time and continue to race and or change motors I would consider something like machine shop use where it attaches to a pole in the building and swings about an arch. Not sure my picture is going to work I think 4m has disabled them or something. Here is a link to the website, the big orange doohicky. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/shop-tools/1116646-tire-racks-hoists-need-some-ideas-custom-one.html

That's pretty neat, I haven't seen one of those before

Much appreciated. We had to set some lead on the back of the picker at my old shop so I just assumed I would have to do that on a new one anyway.

That's pretty much the cherry picker I have. When changing an engine I never go from the front of the car, I always go from the passenger side and have no issues with the arm being long enough.

We have an older hoist that is short, we go from the passenger side all the time.

Same here, close to 20 years with the Northern Tool hoist and we go from passenger side.

have the same one only red, used it over 10 years never a problem, best thing is they fold up to tuck away.

I also have a red one just like this one and has worked for me for 14+ years with no problems.
Does not take up much room in my small shop..

I have nothing bad to say about this one that we've used for the last 7-8 years:

IF you get to set up a new shop consider a overhead I beam with chain fall. You can use it for anything from engines to picking up the whole dang car! Imagine putting the car on jack stands 4 feet off the floor!
