EASTABOGA, AL – Joseph Richborg of Cantonment, FL drove the PRF Chevrolet powered by a $3,495 Chevrolet Performance 602 Racing Engine to fast time honors on Saturday for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division at the 25th Annual Icebowl at Talladega Short Track. Richborg out timed the 61 entrants with a lap around the 1/3-mile clay oval in 16.720 seconds.
Richborg earned the pole position for the first of six heat races that were rained out on Saturday and rescheduled for Sunday. The top three finishers in each heat race will make up the first 18 starting spots for the $2,500-to-win main event. The winner of the first heat race starts the main event from the pole position.
Drivers that finish the six heat races fourth on back will transfer into one of three B-Main races. The top two finishers in each B-Main race on Sunday will fill in starting positions 19 through 24 in the main event starting line-up.
The top six qualifiers earned pole positions for a heat race on Sunday, and the top five qualifiers had an economical $3,495 Chevrolet Performance 602 Racing Engine under the hood of their respective race cars. Ronald Dunn of Corinth, MS will start the second heat race from the pole in the Dunn Motorsports Chevrolet after setting second fast time at 16.807 seconds.
J.J. Hall of Ethridge, TN was the third quick qualifier in the Hall Insurance Chevrolet with a time of 16.818 seconds and will start on the pole of the third heat race. John Smartt of Manchester, TN was the fourth quick qualifier at 16.876 seconds to earn the pole for the fourth heat race in the Frontline Race Cars Chevrolet.
Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL will start the High Roller Race Cars Chevrolet from the pole position of the fifth heat race after setting the fifth fastest time of 16.918 seconds. Allen Carter of Murfreesboro, TN was the sixth fastest qualifier at 16.925 seconds, and will start the Carter’s Transmission Chevrolet from the pole position of the sixth heat race.
