A new ‘gumbo’ clay surface is in place and is ready for this weekend’s open practice at Senoia Raceway. The second year promoter team of Bill Massey, Mayes Massey and Doug Stevens half year research for a better surface on their 3/8ths mile bull ring has been laid down with a half foot of gray gumbo found in south central Georgia. The clay is sticky to touch and bonds together better than the clay used for the past several seasons.

“We trucked it in from south Georgia” explained Mayes Massey. “This stuff has very high clay content with hardly any sand or mica. Our main goal is to reduce dust and hopefully it will also provide multi-groove better racing.”

Drivers will have the first opportunity to test their machines on the new surface this Saturday, February 27th. Senoia Raceway will host a pre-season swap meet for area enthusiasts from 11am to 3pm. There is no cost to buy, sell and trade racing parts, cars, trailers, etc. in the parking lot prior to the practice. The pits will open at 3pm for the open practice with a short drivers meeting scheduled for 4:30pm. Practice will begin at 5pm. Pit passes for the practice will be $20 while grandstand admission is free.

The 2016 Senoia Raceway Season Opener is the following Saturday, March 5th. Seven divisions of racing will be in action on opening night including the Super Late Models, Limited Late Models, Crate Late Models, B Cadets, Hobby Stock, Bombers and Mini Stock.
